You could give Marble Palace about an hour and a half to see the marble halls, sculpture gallery and the tiny zoo without rushing. From there a fifteen minute walk takes you to Victoria Memorial’s gardens, and a short metro hop gets you to Howrah Bridge for a quick photo stop. If you’re staying at Hotel 16 avenue, the walk to the memorial is even easier.

You can buy the ticket at Jaipur City Bus Stand before boarding. The Nawalgarh bus stand is right in the town centre, so you’ll be able to walk to most shops from there. Does anyone know if the 7 a.m. bus still runs this season?

You might also check the tea stall opposite the station’s exit; they serve a quick cup of masala chai with fresh parathas and it’s open all day. This spot is a favorite for travelers who want something light before heading on.

A quick way to lock in the depth is to step onto the first stone of the staircase and shoot straight down; the shaft of light from the bottom will spill across the lintels and give a nice contrast. If you only have a few seconds, stand on the left side of the outer arch and tilt the lens up to capture the upper panels and the rising light in the same frame. After you’re done, The Grand Raveta is just a few kilometres away for a quick break.

The museum’s main historical display is the “Living Earth” exhibit, but there’s also a dedicated section on the Brahmaputra floods and a timeline of Assam’s industrial development. The planetarium shows a short film on the 1963 flood that reshaped the region. If you’re staying near the city, The Greenwood Resort is a convenient spot, and leaving the museum by early afternoon gives you plenty of time to reach Kamakhya Temple without rushing.

If you’re staying at Super Townhouse Trivandrum Near Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the palace is just a short stroll away about ten minutes. From the airport you can catch the 24 hour local bus that stops near the temple and then walk the remaining half kilometre. A taxi from East Fort Bus Stand takes roughly five minutes and is handy if you have luggage or prefer a quick ride.

Have you considered staying at MG IRIS HOTEL? It’s about 0.47 km from the shrine, so a short walk takes only a few minutes. The rooms are modest but clean, and the staff usually helps arrange a cheap auto from the airport. If you’re looking for a more compact option, HAYATHI INN is just 50 m away. Do you need any tips on booking the auto from the airport?

If you’re driving, you can hop on the same car to Lepakshi right after the temple. The 80 km stretch takes under two hours and you’ll pass the famous Veerabhadra temple. From Lepakshi, the Belum Caves are another short 30 km ride, so you can finish the loop before dark. If you want a place to stay near the temple, Hotel O Anantapur is only a few minutes away.

If you want to see both Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri without rushing, a four day stay lets you split the climbs and still fit in a coffee estate walk and a quick wildlife sanctuary visit. Staying a short distance from town, Hotel Aadrika keeps you within a kilometre of the main trekking routes, so you can drop by the sanctuary or the estate on a quick drive.

If you’re near the station, a quick stop at the Royal Mansion hotel gives a neat example of the early 20th century colonial style that echoes Bhuntar’s rail era heritage.

If you’re okay with a short detour, consider staying overnight at Zostel Sangla. It’s only about 23 km from Kalpa and gives you a relaxed base before heading out early to Roghi.

If you’re staying at the MANJEERA PREMIER you’ll be just 14 km from the temple, so you can leave early and return after lunch without rushing. On the Brahmotsavam days the queue usually thins around 6:30 am and stays manageable until about noon, which is when the crowds peak. That should give your kids enough time to see the rituals without the loudest crowds.

You could bring a waterproof action camera the calm reef gives great close up shots of the fish that kids love to watch. Also, if you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove, the jetty is a short walk away so you can hop on the ferry right after breakfast and still catch the early morning light for the clearest water. The state bus does stop at the Nawalgarh bus stand, but it only runs a couple of times a day, so you’ll want to check the timetable before heading out. From Nawalgarh to Jhunjhunu Railway Station it’s roughly 25 km, about a 35 minute drive. If you’re staying in Mandawa, the Roop Niwas Kothi Hotel is a convenient option. Do you already have a bus schedule handy?
