Planning a family trip to Sanket Island for a first visit – what should we know?

Aamir Kaur · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

We’re planning a family visit to Sanket Island for the first time and want to figure out the best way to get there and what we can do that’s kid‑friendly. The island is open all day, 24 hours, and entry is free, so we can arrive any time. Since the best season is November to March, we’re hoping to go in December. How do we get from Port Blair to the island – do we need a cab to the jetty and then a boat? And what activities are recommended for kids, like snorkeling or simple beach play?

You can just take a local ferry from the Port Blair jetty the boats run all day and you don’t need a taxi to get there. Once on Sanket Island the kids will love the calm, shallow waters simple beach play is fine, and the reef is good for beginner snorkeling. If you’re staying nearby, Sea Shell Coral Cove is a popular choice for families and has good reviews.

The local ferries from the Port Blair jetty run every 30 45 minutes, so you can catch one right after you finish your taxi hop. The trip takes about 30 minutes, and the boats are family friendly. Once on Sanket Island, the calm shallow reef is perfect for kids to try snorkeling with a mask and fins just make sure to bring a life jacket for the little ones. If you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove, you can walk to the Port Blair jetty and hop on a local ferry that leaves every 30 45 minutes. The 30 minute ride gets you to Sanket Island, where the calm, shallow reef is great for kids to try snorkeling with a mask and fins. Bring a life jacket and a small beach picnic; the kids can build sandcastles while you relax on the shore.

Since you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove you can walk straight to the Port Blair jetty and catch a ferry that leaves every 30 45 minutes. The 30 minute ride lands you right on the calm reef where kids can safely try snorkeling with a mask and fins. If you want a bit more activity, bring a small inflatable raft or a beach ball the shallow water is perfect for a quick paddle or a gentle splash. Does anyone have tips on the best time of day for the clearest water?

If you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove, just walk to the Port Blair jetty and hop on a local ferry that leaves every 30 to 45 minutes. The 30 minute ride takes you straight to the calm reef on Sanket Island, where kids can try snorkeling with a mask and fins or just play in the shallow sand. A small inflatable raft or beach ball can add a bit more fun for the little ones.

You might want to bring a small inflatable raft or a beach ball the shallow reef is perfect for a quick paddle or a gentle splash, and it keeps the kids busy while you set up a picnic. If you’re looking for the clearest water, the early morning just after sunrise usually has calmer waves and less glare, so that’s a good slot for snorkeling.

You could bring a waterproof action camera the calm reef gives great close up shots of the fish that kids love to watch. Also, if you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove, the jetty is a short walk away so you can hop on the ferry right after breakfast and still catch the early morning light for the clearest water. You might also pack a lightweight beach umbrella the wind can pick up on the island, and it gives kids a shaded spot to rest between snorkeling sessions.
