Is October a good month for visiting Arvalem Caves in Goa?

Paramjit Vaz · 2 days ago ·7 replies

I’m heading to Goa this October and want to hit the Arvalem Caves but only have a few hours. The caves are open 24 hours and entry is free, so timing isn’t a problem. However, I’m concerned about the weather – October is just before the monsoon, and I’m wondering if it will be dry enough to walk around comfortably. Is October a good month for visiting or should I aim for a later date?

You’ll find that October is still fairly dry in Goa; the monsoon usually starts later in the month, so a quick visit to the Arvalem Caves should be fine. Just bring a light rain jacket just in case. If you’re staying near the caves, the Wildernest Nature Resort is a convenient base and offers good walk in access to the surrounding hills.

October is usually still dry in the hills around Arvalem. You might see a brief shower in the late afternoon, but most days stay clear. If you want a place to retreat after the walk, the Wildernest Nature Resort is only about 13 km away and has good trail access. It’s a solid base if you’re staying nearby.

The trail from the entrance to the main chamber is only about 1.5 km, so a quick walk fits easily into a few hours. Early morning is usually the driest, with temperatures around 28 °C, and you’ll avoid the occasional late afternoon shower that sometimes starts in early October. If you need a place to unwind after the walk, Wildernest Nature Resort is a short drive away and offers good trail access.

If you’re short on time, an early morning slot is best. The trail to the main chamber is just 1.5 km, so you can finish before any late afternoon showers that sometimes start around 4 pm. Afterward, the Wildernest Nature Resort is a convenient spot to relax and rehydrate just a 13 km drive from the caves.

If you’re pressed for time, head there early in the morning. The 1.5 km walk to the main chamber usually finishes before any late afternoon showers that can start around 4 pm in early October. Afterward, a quick drive to Wildernest Nature Resort lets you dry off, grab a drink, and rest before heading back.
