Will Mandala Top be too crowded for a family visit in October?

Manav Mohanty · 2 days ago ·8 replies

Mandala Top is a 20 km walk from Bomdila Monastery and has no entry fee. The viewpoint stays open all day, which makes it easy for a family to plan a trip. But in October, when the weather is best, will you find that the spot gets heavily crowded and difficult to enjoy? Also, is it better to arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds?

The trail is free and the viewpoint stays open all day, so you can plan a family outing at any time. In October the weather is clear, but the view spot tends to get busier as the day goes on. Heading out before sunrise usually means a quieter walk and a better chance to snap photos without the crowd. If you can, aim for an early morning start to beat the main flow.

If you’re staying at Awoo Resort, you can head out from the hotel early in the morning and still get to the viewpoint before the main crowds arrive. The trail itself is free, so you can leave a bit later if you prefer a quieter walk, but arriving before sunrise gives you the best chance to catch a clear view without people in the frame.

If you’re staying at Awoo Resort you can leave the hotel around 5 or 6 a.m. to hit the trail before the main flow of tourists. The walk is still free and the viewpoint stays open all day, so an early start gives you a quieter spot and better light for photos. If you’re not at the resort, aim to be out by sunrise anyway. If you’re staying at Awoo Resort, the trail starts right out of the parking area so you can hit the viewpoint by mid morning. Leaving before sunrise keeps the walk quiet, and you’ll still get good light for photos before the main crowd arrives. If you’re coming from another hotel, plan to be on the trail by 9 a.m. to avoid the peak flow.
