Late afternoon arrival near Birds’ Island, Odisha – where to stay?

I will be landing at Biju Patnaik International Airport in the late afternoon and want to head straight to Birds’ Island in Chilika Lake. The island is open all day and entry is free, so I’d like a place that’s close and offers easy transport to the lake. Which hotels near Puri or Bhubaneswar are best for a short stay after a long flight? Also, are there any accommodation options that provide shuttle or cab service from the airport or Balugaon Bus Stand to the island area?

If you land at Biju Patnaik and want to head straight to Birds’ Island, staying at Golden Tree in Puri puts you about an hour from the airport and only a 15 minute drive to Balugaon Bus Stand. The hotel has a small shuttle service that can be arranged for a short trip to the lake area, and they can also arrange a cab if you need a quicker ride. This gives you a comfortable base with easy access to Chilika.

Golden Tree in Puri is a good base because the staff can arrange a short haul cab to Balugaon Bus Stand, which is only about 15 minutes away. From there you can catch a local boat to Birds’ Island. If you prefer a quieter spot closer to the lake, Mayfair Palm Beach Resort in Gopalpur is about an hour’s drive from the airport and has a small shuttle that can be booked for the lake area.
