If you want a quieter spot, try the beach near the InterContinental Marine Drive. The walk is flat and you can sit on the sand after 6 pm and hear the waves. It’s only a short walk from most mid range hotels, so you can drop by for a drink later if you decide to stay in the area.

If you’re staying near the temples, HAYATHI INN is just a few hundred metres away and you could walk to the Five Rathas. The Mahabalipuram bus stand sits about 2.5 km from the site, so a local bus or auto will get you there in roughly ten minutes. Chengalpattu railway station is about 12 km away; the last Chennai to Chengalpattu trains leave before 6 pm, so a taxi after 4 pm is still the safest bet.

Have you checked out the small stall on the gallery lawn that sells dosas and filter coffee? It’s right by the entrance, so you can grab a bite and still have a clear view of the exhibit while you sit on the benches outside. Also, a quick question do you know of any nearby spots that serve a full vegetarian thali for a more filling lunch?

A good idea is to start around 5:30 am and stay until about 11:30 am. That gives you the first light, a short mid morning break to check gear, and still plenty of daylight for late morning shots. If you’re near Theni, the Le Shiv Executive Suite is a convenient base to rest between sessions.

A quick 30 minute boat to Umananda gets you to the temple before the midday rush, but the shrine itself is small. After the temple you can walk the main path to Peacock House and then return, giving you both bird photos and a glimpse of the village layout. If you’re in a hurry, skip the temple and head straight to Peacock House, then back early to beat the heat. Starting before ten keeps the river calmer and the birds more active.

If you’re hoping to catch the Nako Monastery before sunset, you might want to check if a local taxi from Kalpa can drop you at the temple’s entrance around 6 pm. That way you still get the convenience of Hotel Kalpa Deshang’s road access without staying too far from the village.

The early light at Laitlum Canyon gives softer shadows that help with exposure and framing, so you’ll find it easier to capture the canyon walls before the sun fully climbs. Around sunrise the Himalayan blue robin and warblers are most active, so a quiet walk is ideal. If you’re staying at Awoo Resort, the staff can drop you at the Laitlum bus stop around 5 am, cutting the drive from the airport to about 45 minutes and letting you hit the trail right when the first light hits the canyon.

You could also stop by the small market next to Varahi Temple kids can try local sweets and pick up a few handmade toys. If you have a bit more time, a quick drive to The Green Village Eco Resort Jageshwar offers a short nature trail and a playground.

If you want to beat the Thursday rush, leave Dimapur before 7 am. A quick taxi from The Layover Hotel gets you to Mon Town in about 30 minutes, and the market opens at 8 am, so you’ll see the stalls fresh and the crowds still light. This timing works well in early October when evenings stay cool and the festival crowds are still building.

The park also launched a community art installation in 2023, where local schools painted murals on the amphitheatre walls, reflecting the park’s peace mission. If you stay at Ashok Villa, you can walk to the visitor centre in just a few minutes and catch the installation before the evening panel.

If you’re already stopping at Baga Beach, you might also want to pop into the nearby Aaristo Beach Resort for a quick swim before heading to Tito’s. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the beach and offers a nice break from the road. After Baga, stick to the narrow beach road toward Calangute to stay close to the shore and avoid the busier commercial stretch. This keeps the drive smooth and lets you enjoy the coastline.

You’ll find that October mornings can still be misty, especially after a late season shower, so a light poncho is handy. A quick dry towel helps keep your shoes dry when the forest floor stays damp for a couple of hours. Also, insect activity picks up as the humidity drops, so a small bottle of repellent is worth bringing for those early walks.

If you want to see the caves and then head straight to Galikonda, a day trip works but you’ll miss the soft mist at sunrise. Staying a night at USHODAYA RESORTS lets you wake up early, catch the first light over the valley, and still have time for the caves without rushing. A good photo window is the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the city bus stop is almost next door. Bus numbers 3 and 5 head straight to Bahu Fort and Raghunath Temple, with a short 10 minute ride. Taxis from the airport or railway station are usually met at dedicated counters; a 5 km run to Bahu Fort costs roughly ₹200 ₹250, while the 1 km hop to the temple is around ₹80 ₹100. The buses run every 15 minutes, so you can switch between modes without long waits.

You might want to bring a small towel and a wide band sunscreen for the kids, especially if you’re staying at the Best Western Plus Tejvivaan. The tide pool next to the snorkeling spot is shallow enough that little ones can wade in and watch crabs and small fish, giving them a hands on marine experience before they head out for a swim.
