Transport options for first‑time visit to Jammu City

Dipankar Bandyopadhyay · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m planning my first trip to Jammu City and need some guidance on getting around. The city is 24 hours open and free to enter, but I’m not sure whether the best way to reach the main sights is by cab, bus or train. The nearest airport is Jammu Airport and the main railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station – are there reliable cab services from either point to places like Bahu Fort (just 5 km away) or Raghunath Temple (about 1 km)? Also, is the local bus stand convenient for hopping between attractions?

If you’re staying near the city centre, like at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the local bus stand is only a few minutes away and most city buses drop you near Raghunath Temple and Bahu Fort. For a quicker hop, you can book a taxi from the airport or the railway station; the 5 km stretch to Bahu Fort takes about 15 minutes, and the 1 km to the temple is almost instant. The city’s 24 hour public transport makes it easy to switch between modes without missing a beat. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the city bus stop is almost next door. Bus numbers 3 and 5 head straight to Bahu Fort and Raghunath Temple, with a short 10 minute ride. Taxis from the airport or railway station are usually met at dedicated counters; a 5 km run to Bahu Fort costs roughly ₹200 ₹250, while the 1 km hop to the temple is around ₹80 ₹100. The buses run every 15 minutes, so you can switch between modes without long waits.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the local bus stop is practically next door. The city buses run every 15 minutes, and you can hop on route 3 or 5 to reach Bahu Fort or Raghunath Temple directly. If you prefer a cab, most counters at the airport and railway station have drivers ready, and a 5 km ride to Bahu Fort usually takes about 15 minutes.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, you can catch the city bus right outside the hotel. Route 3 or 5 drops you near Bahu Fort and Raghunath Temple within about ten minutes. The buses run every fifteen minutes, so you can hop on and off without long waits. For a quicker ride, the airport and railway station have dedicated taxi counters that usually have drivers ready for the 5 km trip to Bahu Fort.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the bus stop is literally outside the hotel, and the airport and railway station each have a dedicated taxi counter that usually has a driver ready. A quick 5 km ride to Bahu Fort or a 1 km hop to Raghunath Temple takes about 15 minutes and is a convenient alternative to the 15 minute city bus. Does anyone know if night buses run past midnight?

If you prefer walking, the temple is only a kilometer away, so a short stroll works well too.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the bus stop is right outside the hotel. Route 3 and 5 also drop you near the Raghunath Market area, so you can hop on for a quick walk to the temple. For a night round trip, the city bus keeps running past midnight, and taxis at the airport or railway station are ready 24 hours, making late night travel hassle free.

Night buses do run past midnight, so you can still hop on a city route even after dark. If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the stop right outside the hotel is a convenient launch point for those late night rides.

You can also walk from Hotel Le Roi to Raghunath Temple in about 10 minutes it’s right on the main road. If you prefer a cab, the airport counter usually offers a flat rate of ₹200 for the 5 km to Bahu Fort, which saves you a quick 15 minute ride. Does anyone know if the city buses run after 11 pm?

If you’re staying at Hotel Le Roi Jammu, the Raghunath Temple is only about a ten minute walk from the hotel’s front gate, so you can skip the bus or cab for a quick stroll. The temple’s main entrance is on the main road, and you’ll find a few small local vendors nearby that sell snacks and souvenirs before you head back.
