If you’re aiming for a tight day, book the early morning speedboat from Port Blair to Great Nicobar, which usually departs around 6 am. The trip takes roughly an hour, so you can return to Port Blair by mid afternoon and catch an evening ferry back to Silchar. Afterward, Sea Shell Havelock is a convenient spot to drop off luggage and grab a quick bite before heading home.

If you’re near the National Museum, you can walk a few minutes to the Café 5th Avenue just outside the entrance. It’s a good spot for a quick tea and a slice of apple pie, and the seating overlooks the museum courtyard.

If you start from Mount Retreat and head out around 6 a.m., the road through Alagar Kovil is still fairly empty. Once you pass the temple, you can take the side lane that skirts the main entrance of Pazhamudhircholai, giving you a quieter angle for the carvings. Try shooting from the outer courtyard where the light falls directly on the stone; a slight tilt can help keep the crowds out of the foreground.

You can also catch the evening demos right after sunset the staff usually start around 8 pm. If you stay at Super Townhouse Gajuwaka Near CMR Mall you’re only a short walk from the entrance, so you can drop by any time the park is open. Do you know if they schedule any special night time shows during the cooler months?

You might want to park near the falls and start early morning light gives the best shots and the birds are most active then. If you go trekking, the drive back to Tirupati is about an hour, so a quick stop at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple on the way back could fit nicely. For a relaxed day, you could stay a night at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati and use it as a base to hit the falls in the morning and the temple in the afternoon. If you’re staying near Mandi, the SPT Clarks Inn Suites is only ten kilometres away and gives you a quick start to either lake. Prashar’s trek is longer but offers more varied scenery and bird spotting, while Rewalsar’s museum and extra temples give a richer cultural bite. Pick based on how much walking you want.

If you’re up for a quick stroll after breakfast, the small museum near the bus stand opens at 8 am and has a kids’ activity corner. It’s a short walk from the tea stalls and gives a gentle start before you hit the Gurkha Fort.

You could also stop by the Gopabandhu Park right after the hill; it has a small temple and a few pavilions that are easy to stroll around. If you need a place to rest, Hotel O Saket Homes in Bhubaneswar is a comfortable option not far from the city centre.

If you take a bus from Calicut to Wayanad Bus Stand it’s a straight through service that runs about 7 to 8 hours. From the bus stand the local bus to the Chembra trailhead takes roughly 1½ to 2 hours, so you’re looking at a total of about 9 hours from the airport. The cab option is quicker about 4½ hours but the bus can be cheaper if you book early. If you’re staying in the area, the Sterling Vythiri Wayanad hotel is a short walk from the bus stand, which makes catching the next leg easy.

If you’re staying at Olive Hotel and Suites, try a short walk west of the main ridge path after sunset. The sea breaks into a thin ribbon just before the green slope, and the low light casts a subtle rim around the cliffs many overlook that quiet corner. It’s a great spot for a long exposure sunset.

If you’re staying at the PHOU OI BEE HOTEL, you’ll be just a short walk to the bus stop that heads out to Kangla, so you can start the day early and beat the midday traffic. After the fort, the State Museum is only a 15 minute drive, and from there a quick 45 minute ride gets you to Loktak Lake, giving you a nice mix of history and natural scenery before you head back.

You could grab a quick cup at the tea house inside Padmapuram Gardens before heading to Katiki Waterfalls; it’s free and gives a nice break. If you’re short on time, a cab to the Borra Caves takes about 45 minutes, while a local bus is a bit slower but still fits in the six hour window. A short stop at USHODAYA RESORTS right after the museum gives a quick rest before you go out.

In October the sea breeze usually kicks in around 4 pm, so a late afternoon walk on Dandi’s beach feels cooler than the midday heat. If you’re staying near Navsari, the Uday Palace Navsari offers a comfortable room to beat the heat before heading out.

The island’s old irrigation tanks are a clear window into Chola engineering; the stone channels and sluice gates show how they diverted river water for rice paddies. A quick walk to the mainland temple next to the island lets you see the same Chola iconography carved in stone, tying the inscription to everyday life. If you need a rest spot after the walk, the Goutham Grand Hotel in Tenali is just over ten kilometres away.

Starting at Kangla gives a quick visual of the royal seat before you dive into the museum’s artifacts. From the museum to Loktak Lake it’s about 45 km and usually takes roughly an hour by car. If you’re staying near the city, the PHOU OI BEE HOTEL is within walking distance of the main roads that head out. Do you need tips on the best route to Keibul Lamjao from Loktak?
