Affordable food options near Durtlang Hills for a budget traveler

Aniket Mahajan · 8 hours ago ·6 replies

Looking for cheap food around Durtlang Hills, especially near the local markets or the heritage village. The hills themselves are free and open all day, so I could visit the village after a trek and try traditional dishes without extra cost. Do you know any stalls or eateries that are popular with locals and won’t break the bank? Also, is there a good place to grab a quick bite before heading back to the bus stop?

A good spot is the stall at the village square that sells fresh bamboo leaf wraps with grilled pork or fish. It’s popular with locals and prices stay under 200 MMK. If you need a quick bite before heading back to the bus stop, the tea stall on the main road near the market serves steaming rice cakes and local tea for just a few hundred rupees.

You might want to try the small stall on the eastern side of the village square that sells steaming rice noodles with fresh herbs. Locals say the broth is made from a secret blend of herbs and is very cheap. If you need something quick before the bus, there’s a tea stall on the main road that offers boiled rice cakes with tea for a few rupees. Have you tried the bamboo leaf wraps before?

If you’re heading straight to the bus stop after the trek, there’s a small stall right on the main road that sells boiled rice cakes with a splash of local tea. The portions are generous and the price stays under a few hundred rupees, so it’s a quick, budget friendly option before you catch the bus.

If you’re heading back early, there’s a small roadside stall near the bus stop that sells grilled fish skewers with a squeeze of lime locals say it’s a quick, inexpensive option. Also, if you have a bit more time and want a full meal, the market area around the heritage village has a family run tea shop that serves steaming rice noodles and a mild fish broth; the portions are generous and the price stays below 300 MMK.
