Family route from Indore to Choral Dam for first visit

Indrani Swaminathan · 13 hours ago ·6 replies

Planning a family trip to Choral Dam from Indore, what’s the best way to get there? Should we book a cab or can we rely on local buses? Also, any tips for a first‑time visit?

If you’re heading from Indore, a shared taxi or a private cab gives you the most flexibility, especially with kids. Buses run from the main bus stand to Pithampur, but they can be crowded and the schedule isn’t always convenient. Once you arrive, consider staying at JMC Hotel the Moon in Pithampur; it’s close to the dam and has good family rooms. Also, bring a light jacket the evenings near the dam can get cool, even in summer. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You might want to check the local bus timetable from Indore to Pithampur first; the route that stops near the dam runs only a few times a day. If that doesn’t line up, a shared taxi to Pithampur and then a short local bus ride can be a cheaper alternative. Also, the dam’s best viewing spot is on the western side the sunset there is usually spectacular. Do you know if you’ll be visiting early morning or later in the day?

If you’re planning an early morning trip, the local buses to Pithampur leave around 5 am and 6 am, so you’ll catch the sunrise over the dam. A shared taxi that drops you at the dam’s parking lot can save time, especially if you have kids. Afterward, consider staying at JMC Hotel the Moon it’s only a few kilometres from the dam and has family rooms that work well for short stays.

You might want to park right at the dam’s small lot and bring a packed lunch the walk to the best viewing spot is only a few minutes from there. A stay at JMC Hotel the Moon would keep you close to the action.

If you’re heading out early, the bus to Pithampur usually leaves around 5 am, but the last one back is around 9 pm, so a shared taxi gives you more flexibility for evening visits. Also, the dam’s parking lot has a small fee of about ₹20 per vehicle, so it’s good to bring cash. If you stay at JMC Hotel the Moon, you’ll be just under 4 km from the dam and can walk or take a short rickshaw ride.
