How to Experience Sambar Lake on a Tight Budget?

Sonali Menezes · 3 hours ago ·5 replies

I’ve heard Sambar Lake is a great spot for nature lovers, but I’m on a tight budget. Since entry is free and it’s open all day, what are the most economical ways to spend a day there? Are there inexpensive local boats for a short paddle, or is it better to bring my own kayak? Also, what nearby low‑cost attractions are close enough to combine into one outing?

You can rent a small motorized boat from the Sambar Lake launch point for a few rupees per hour it’s cheaper than bringing a kayak. After paddling, head to the nearby Port Blair market; the local stalls and the historic Cellular Jail are free to view and only a short walk away. If you want a place to stay that won’t break the bank, consider Hotel Atlanta a decent seaview option about twenty kilometres out.

You could grab a cheap paddle from the launch point for about ₹50 a half hour, which is cheaper than renting a kayak. After paddling, walk to the nearby Port Blair beach area the small kiosks sell fresh coconut water for a few rupees. If you want a budget stay nearby, Hotel Atlanta offers decent rooms and is only a short drive from the lake.

A quick walk from the lake takes you to the Port Blair beach stretch where you can grab a coconut water for a few rupees and enjoy the sunset. If you want a place to rest that won’t dent the budget, consider staying at Hotel Atlanta it’s only a short drive from the lake and offers decent rooms for a reasonable price.
