Trekking or Relaxing at Kandhari Waterfalls this October?

Bilal Vaidya · 4 days ago ·11 replies

I’m planning a solo trip to Chittoor district in October and I’m torn between a trek to Kandhari Waterfalls or just taking it easy there. The falls are open all day, free to enter, and October is listed as a good month to visit. Trekking offers lush forest paths and a good workout, while a relaxed day lets me photograph the cascades and enjoy birdwatching. Also, the nearby Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple is about 32 km away – would that be worth adding if I choose the trek? Which option would give a better solo experience, and how long should I budget for each activity?

If you want a quick hike, the trek to Kandhari Waterfalls takes about 3 to 4 hours round trip and gives you a decent workout while passing through dense forest. If you prefer a relaxed day, you can spend 2 to 3 hours just watching the falls and spotting birds. Adding a visit to Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple is doable; it’s roughly 32 km away so you could head there after the trek or before, depending on your energy level. A stay at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati would give you a comfortable base if you plan to explore the area further.

If you’re up for a bit more walking, the 3 to 4 hour trek gives you a good workout and a chance to spot local birds along the forest trail. If you prefer a relaxed day, spending 2 3 hours at the falls lets you focus on photography and birdwatching without the extra effort. After the trek you could head to Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple; the 32 km drive takes about an hour and adds a cultural stop. If you need a base, Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a solid option.

If you’re up for the trek, you can finish around sunset and then drive the 32 km to Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple the drive takes roughly an hour. That gives you a full day of forest walk, photo ops at the falls, and a cultural stop. If you prefer a lighter day, spend 2 3 hours at the falls and then head straight back; you’ll still get plenty of bird shots without the extra drive. A stay at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati would give you a convenient base if you plan to stay a night.

You might want to park near the falls and start early morning light gives the best shots and the birds are most active then. If you go trekking, the drive back to Tirupati is about an hour, so a quick stop at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple on the way back could fit nicely. For a relaxed day, you could stay a night at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati and use it as a base to hit the falls in the morning and the temple in the afternoon. If you’re up for the trek, try starting early so you finish near sunset, then head straight to the temple the drive takes about an hour. That way you get a full day of forest walk, photo ops at the falls, and a quiet evening at the shrine. If you prefer a lighter day, park near the falls, spend a couple of hours birdwatching, then return to your base at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati.

You might want to start the trek early so you can hit the falls before the afternoon heat and still have time for the temple drive. A 3 4 hour round trip trek gives a good workout and some birdwatching on the trail, while a relaxed 2 3 hour stay lets you focus on photography and spotting local species. If you plan a night out, Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base for both the falls and the temple.

Early in the morning the trail is cooler and the birds are most active, so if you do the trek try to start around sunrise. That gives you a good workout, a chance to catch the falls before the midday heat, and plenty of bird shots. If you prefer a lighter day, you can still leave early, spend a couple of hours at the falls, then head straight back to your base at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati.

If you want a bit more adventure, start the trek before sunrise so you can hit the falls early and still have time for the temple drive afterward. The 3 4 hour round trip leaves you enough daylight to see the temple’s main shrine before sunset, which is great for photography. Afterward, a quick stay at Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati lets you rest and plan a second day if you wish.

If you’re leaning toward the trek, consider starting a bit after sunrise so the trail stays cooler and you can catch the waterfall before the midday heat. That gives you a full 3 4 hour round trip plus a quick drive to the temple afterward, keeping the whole day manageable. If you prefer a lighter outing, parking near the falls and spending a couple of hours photographing and birdwatching works well, and you can still head back to the same base in the evening. Either way, Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient spot to rest after the day.
