You could bring a small inflatable pool or kiddie ring for the kids to splash in after the falls. It’s a quick, low effort activity that keeps them entertained while you watch the water. If they get tired, the indoor pool at Hotel Akanksha is a nice fallback.

You can rent a small motorized boat from the Sambar Lake launch point for a few rupees per hour it’s cheaper than bringing a kayak. After paddling, head to the nearby Port Blair market; the local stalls and the historic Cellular Jail are free to view and only a short walk away. If you want a place to stay that won’t break the bank, consider Hotel Atlanta a decent seaview option about twenty kilometres out.

You could also drop by the Kaveri riverbank near Sankagiri it’s only about 25 km from the sanctuary and free. A shared auto from the sanctuary’s bus stand can take you there for a few rupees, and the same route will get you to Hosur or Krishnagiri Dam if you want to hop around.

If you want a sit down spot that still feels local, the TSG Grand is only a few hundred metres from the church. They offer a small dining area with Andaman specialties such as fresh fish curry with coconut rice, and the staff usually have a kids menu ready. It’s a convenient break after the stalls and the walk to the church.

If you’re staying at the Evershine Resort & Spa, you’re only a mile from the temple and can walk in after the main prayers. On weekday evenings the crowd is noticeably thinner than on weekends, so try to hit the temple after 7:30 pm. That way you’ll still be close to Venna Lake for a quick stroll before the lights go on.

If you leave Kolkata around 3:30 pm you’ll arrive just in time for the 6 pm kirtan and can stay until the lecture wraps up around 8 pm. The pavilion near the main entrance is usually less crowded than the central hall, so try to sit there for a quieter experience. After the lecture you still have a little time to stroll around the Victoria Memorial before it starts to dim.

In October the humidity drops from the monsoon peak, so mornings can feel a bit damp but it usually clears by mid afternoon. The park’s canopy stays green, but you’ll likely see brief showers in the late afternoon. A light raincoat or umbrella is handy, and staying at HOTEL BALLERINA keeps you close to the city’s main transport links.

A quick tip is to ask the caretaker about the western shrine’s 1662 copper plaque that records a Maratha officer’s gold donation it shows early patronage that kept the temple alive during the 18th century conflicts. Staying at Hukam’s Lalit Mahal will put you close to the site.

You could also consider heading to Bahu Fort first after Peer Kho, then back to Raghunath Temple. The 6 km leg to the fort is a bit longer than the 5 km to the temple, but the route from the fort to Raghunath is only about 4 km, keeping the total drive under an hour. This way you finish the loop and can drop your bags at KC Residency before heading back.

You could try heading out a bit earlier, around 5:15 am, when the sky is still dark but the sun is just starting to push up. That gives a stronger silhouette of the dunes before the light softens. A lightweight tripod is still handy for the longer exposures, but you can also brace the camera against a low palm tree if you’re in a hurry. If you stay a few minutes after sunrise, the Mandovi River’s reflected glow can add a nice contrast to the beach shots.

You could also stop by Kanke Dam after the museum; it’s about 15 km from the centre and offers a quiet lakeside walk. If you need a quick place to freshen up before heading out, Treebo Archie Regency is just a few hundred metres from the airport.

If you’re only visiting the falls for a few hours, a shared taxi from the Tawang Bus Stand is usually enough. It starts around 9 am, takes about four to five hours, and you can ask the driver to pause at the tea stalls two kilometres before the falls. If you’d rather have a bit more control over the timing and stops, a private hire would be better. After the visit you could even book a pickup from the bus stand to the Royale Lalawi Hotel in Aizawl if you plan to stay overnight.

If you’re staying near the city, the PHOU OI BEE HOTEL is only a short walk from the bus stops that head out. From the State Museum to Keibul Lamjao it’s about 55 km, usually taking around 1 hour 15 minutes on the main road. This gives you a good buffer to explore the lake and park without rushing.

You can also look into a direct speedboat from Port Blair to Great Nicobar, which takes about an hour. If you want a place to stay nearby, Sea Shell Havelock on Havelock Island is a popular choice and is only a short boat ride from Great Nicobar. That gives you a quick return option after your day trip.

If you’re after a quick change of pace, the 20 km trek to Jalori Pass takes you past the alpine ridge and offers a high altitude view that’s hard to get from the valley floor. The pass also gives you a good stretch before the lake. For a longer day, a loop that starts at the lake, goes up to the pass, and then back through the forest of the national park gives a mix of water, high mountain scenery, and a chance to spot wildlife. If you end up back in Jibhi after the pass, the Royal Mansion in Bhuntar is a comfortable spot to unwind.
