You might try the short eastern side trail it’s only a few kilometers and gives a different angle of the peaks, which can be great for wide angle shots. If you stay at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort, the staff can help you time your walk so you’re on the riverside terrace when the first light hits the water. Have you mapped out the best spot for long exposure around sunset?

If you want a bit more space but still close, the Collection O Aryan Address is only about 600 meters away and its rooms are noticeably larger than FabHotel’s. It still keeps you within a short walk to the temple.

If you’re staying at Super Townhouse Trivandrum Near Padmanabhaswamy Temple the palace is just a ten minute stroll, so you can skip the cab. From the railway station you can hop on the 21 bus that stops right outside Padmanabhaswamy Temple and then walk the half kilometre. From the airport, the 24 hour local 21 bus drops near the temple area as well just a short walk to the palace.

If you’re heading by bus, the 1006 service from the station’s bus stand takes a straight route on NH 50 and stops near the vineyard entrance. It runs roughly every 30 minutes, so you can time it to arrive just before opening.

If you’re okay with a short drive, Kanke Dam is about 15 km from the Science Centre, so you could head there after the museum and catch the sunset by the lake. A taxi from the airport takes roughly 20 minutes, which is usually the fastest option.

If you only have an hour, the Mehrauli Archaeological Park gives you a quick walk through the ruins and a good view of the Qutub Minar without a long stroll. After that, you can head to the Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa, just under two kilometres away, where a short garden terrace lets you grab a coffee and stretch your legs before you head back to MB Road.

Treebo Nestlay Rooms Gummidipoondi is the only listed hotel near the temple. It’s about 36 km away, so a 45 minute drive is expected. If you want to cut travel time, look for a guesthouse in Tiruvallur; the 600 series bus runs every 30 minutes and drops you right near the temple entrance, cutting the commute to about fifteen minutes.

If you want to avoid the bus schedule hassle, a taxi from Jolly Grant Airport is the quickest way to Taluka. The drive takes about 45 minutes and you can flag one up at the airport’s taxi stand; they’re usually ready early. Once you’re in Taluka, you could stay at Vatsyayana a Himalayan boutique resort a bit farther out, but it’s well rated and offers a good base for exploring the area.

If you’re landing just before sunset, you could hop into a taxi from Kabbalamma straight to Lalbagh. The drive takes about 10 minutes, so you’ll still have a window before the 6 pm closing. Afterward, the Vivanta Bengaluru on Residency Road is only a few minutes away and offers a comfortable spot to unwind for the night.

If you’re heading from Aluva, the quickest public option to Thattekad is the KSRTC bus that stops near the sanctuary; the trip takes about 40 minutes and costs a few rupees. From Paniyeli Poru you can walk a short trail to the main waterhole, but renting a small motorbike gives you a better view of the surrounding paddy fields. A day trip to Thattekad is doable if you leave early, and staying a night at Maram Resort Mamalakandam would let you enjoy the sanctuary the next morning. If you can get there around 5:30 pm on a weekday, most people will still be at the lake and you’ll see fewer devotees at the temple. A short walk from Citrus Chamber keeps you close and lets you slip in before the main evening prayers.

If you only have a few hours, a quick walk to the Bombay High Court gives you the neoclassical façade and a nice photo spot, but you’ll spend most of the time strolling around Fort. After that, consider heading down to the old Fort market on the way back to the station the stalls sell fresh coconut water and quick vada pavs that are a quick bite. For a cheap overnight spot, Backpacker Panda Colaba is only about 0.66 km away and offers dorms that keep costs low.

If you want a bit more comfort but still cheap, the Radisson Chandigarh Zirakpur is a good middle ground. It’s just under three kilometres from Elante Mall and offers free Wi Fi and a complimentary breakfast, which can offset the cost of meals. The shuttle service drops you right near the mall entrance, so you’ll be within a short auto ride to Chandigarh as well.

If you’re looking for a quieter base that still lets you reach Majuli quickly, Cygnett Inn Imperial in Tezpur is about a 105 km drive from Kheroni. The hotel’s pool keeps the kids entertained, and the surrounding villages give plenty of open space without the usual tourist bustle that you’d see at Kaziranga on weekends.

A good time is around 5:30 am when the light is soft but the sky is still dark enough for contrast. A tripod helps keep the camera steady in the low light, and you can set a longer exposure to capture the early glow. If you stay past dawn, the light over the Mandovi River will be a nice addition; the river reflects the sunrise and gives a different mood compared to the beach.
