Which spot is quieter for a family – Kheroni or Kaziranga?

Swarup Noronha · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m planning a family weekend in Assam and looking at Kheroni. It’s free to enter and open all day. I know Kaziranga National Park is only about 100 km away and usually attracts a lot of visitors. Does Kheroni stay calm while Kaziranga is packed? What about Majuli Island, which is roughly 150 km from Kheroni – is it less crowded? I want the least crowded option for kids.

Majuli is a bit farther out and usually sees fewer tourists than Kaziranga, so it tends to be quieter for families. If you want a calm spot near Kheroni, staying at a place like Resort Borgos in Kaziranga can still give you a peaceful environment while keeping you close to the park’s wildlife. Just keep in mind that the park can get busy in peak season.

If you’re aiming for the quietest spot, consider staying a bit farther out from Kheroni, like at Super Hotel O Saurabh Nagar Beltola in Guwahati. It’s about 140 km away, so you’ll miss the peak crowds that come into Kaziranga on weekends. The hotel has a kid friendly pool and a playground, making it a relaxed base for the whole family.

Majuli is about 150 km from Kheroni and tends to see far fewer visitors than Kaziranga, especially on weekdays. The island’s smaller tourist infrastructure means kids can roam the bamboo groves and local villages more freely. If you want a quiet base close to the island, staying at a small homestay there or a nearby guesthouse in Tezpur would keep the kids relaxed without the park crowds.

If you’re looking for the quietest spot, staying at Resort Borgos in Kaziranga keeps you close to the park but the resort’s own grounds are usually calm even when the park is busy. Majuli, being 150 km away, tends to have fewer visitors, so a short drive there can give the kids more space to explore the bamboo groves.
