Taj Connemara is about 2.4 km from the lighthouse, so you’d still walk a short distance to both spots. It’s a bit pricier than the E Hotel but gives a quieter base if you’re looking for a bit more comfort while keeping travel time low. How do you feel about that trade off? The Indira Gandhi Zoo opens at 9 am and closes at 5 pm, so if you want to see the animals before the heat rises, a morning slot works best. Have you checked whether the Saturday “Space Exploration” workshop at the museum coincides with your travel dates?

If you’re looking for a quick spiritual stop and still want some adventure, staying at Raga On the Ganges gives you instant river access for a morning rafting launch and an evening ashram session. From there a short drive takes you to Devprayag for a quiet sunset at the confluence, so you can mix both worlds without a long commute.

You could also check the free municipal lot near the main gate it’s usually less crowded than the paid one. If the kids need a break before heading to Hussainiwala, a quick stop at the tea stall by the gate works well.

You could reach Borra Caves by 10 am if you leave early, then head to Galikonda for a sunset photo. The caves stay open until dusk, so you can finish the tour and still catch the golden hour. If you’re short on time, a single day is fine; if you want to relax and shoot misty dawn, stay at USHODAYA RESORTS.

If you’re really short on time, you could stop by the Hanuman Temple first it’s only a few minutes from Bindu Sagar and gives a quick glimpse of local devotion. Afterward, a short walk to the Lingaraj Temple lets you see the 12 storey sanctum and its lake reflection. If you need a quick break, Gokul bhawan is just under 0.5 km away and has a café to recharge. Does the temple schedule fit your arrival time?

If you’re staying at Sea Shell Coral Cove, you can walk to the Port Blair jetty and hop on a local ferry that leaves every 30 45 minutes. The 30 minute ride gets you to Sanket Island, where the calm, shallow reef is great for kids to try snorkeling with a mask and fins. Bring a life jacket and a small beach picnic; the kids can build sandcastles while you relax on the shore.

The tunnel is only about a kilometre from Varkala Beach and about 1.5 km from Papanasam Beach, so you can walk or take a short auto rickshaw hop between the two. If you want a base that’s close to both spots, Villa Luca By Elixir Cliff sits just under a kilometre from the tunnel and gives you easy beach access. It’s a good spot for a family stay.

A quick way is to book a private taxi from the Mysore railway station; it takes about 1½ hours and you avoid the bus schedule. If you’re staying overnight, the Silent Shores Resort & Spa is a decent spot a short drive from the city centre. On the way, keep an eye out for the small prayer hall on the route it’s a nice glimpse of local practice before you reach the settlement. The lighthouse on North Bay Island has a small viewing platform that kids can walk up to safely; there’s no steep climb, so the whole family can see the sea from the top. If you’re staying nearby, the Best Western Plus Tejvivaan is only a few minutes away, so you can grab a quick bite before heading out.

If you’re just in a hurry, the 12 km detour via Radhanagar is the fastest and gives you a quick stop at a quieter beach ideal for snorkeling. The 15 km route to Elephant Beach is a bit longer but offers more wind surfing and paddle boarding options, plus a slightly more rugged shoreline. If you decide to stay a bit, the TSG Grand is just a short walk from Adda and has a good pool to relax after the beach.

You could also take the city bus that stops right at the mosque gate; it runs every 10 15 minutes from Ajmer Junction and the fare is only a few rupees more than the regular city bus. If you prefer a direct drop off, a shared auto from the junction costs about ₹90 ₹100 and gets you straight to the entrance. The Super Hotel O Ajmer Central is the only 4 star option within a kilometre, while the 3 star Hotel Najaf Palace is about 1.8 km away and still close to the same bus stop.

If you’re staying near the entrance, the ranger office has a small exhibit on the 1984 split from the Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve, showing old maps and a photo timeline. After a short evening walk, you could drive to Chandipur and catch the sunset over the Bay of Bengal before heading back. A quick stop at Arpita Beach Resort would give you a nice break without a long detour.

If you’re up for a short walk, the tea estates around Kattappana are only about 20 km away and they open early. The misty ridges are still damp at sunrise, giving a quiet, almost other worldly feel before the crowds arrive. It’s a gentle trail and you can grab a cup of locally brewed tea at one of the estate cafés right after the walk.

If you’re only in Kolkata for a few hours, take the 26A bus from Victoria Memorial straight to Howrah Bridge it’s just a 15 minute ride and costs only a few rupees. After crossing the bridge, grab a quick puchka from the stalls on the south side. For a cheap rest that keeps all three sites within walking distance, Polo Floatel Kolkata is only 0.6 km away and usually offers single rooms around ₹1,200.
