Country Inn & Suites by Radisson sits a bit farther about 4.7 km from the pass so the drive to Thajiwas Glacier is still short, but its rooms are slightly larger than the 4 star options. If a quieter riverside backdrop is more important, that extra 0.3 km could give you a more peaceful evening while still keeping the glacier in sight.

If you’re staying in Udupi, the Samanvay Boutique Hotel is a good budget base and right next to the 22A bus stop. After the morning walk through the fort walls, you can hop on a 22B back to Udupi and grab a local snack at the market near the bus terminal it’s cheap and gives another glimpse of the colonial era.

You can grab banana chips or idli vada packs at the kiosks in Chalakkayam until noon. If you need something more filling before you head out, the market in Athirappilly is a short drive away and sells fresh fruit and ready to eat snacks. A light breakfast at Niraamaya Retreats Samroha, about 17 km from the dam, is another option if you want a sit down meal.

If you’re aiming for that early golden wash, try getting to the falls by 5:15 am so the sun’s first rays hit the water just as it starts to splash. After the walk, a short drive to Lalbagh takes about 15 minutes, giving you a quick tea break before heading back.

A good trick is to start around 6:30 a.m. when the air is cool and the first light makes the stone reliefs look dramatic. The kids usually finish the walk before lunch, so you can grab a quick dosas at the beachside café right by the entrance. If you want a sit down bite after, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a short drive away and has a decent on site restaurant.

If you take the state bus to Puri Bus Stand, you can hop on a local minibus that stops right at the lighthouse; the minibus ride is just a few minutes. From the airport, a taxi is faster but pricier. If you end up near the beach, a quick walk or rickshaw from Hotel Royal Grand Heritage will get you there in minutes. Do you need tips on the minibus schedules? TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you get to Hari Parbat around four, the afternoon rush has usually already eased. The temple stays open 24 hours, so you can visit after the crowds thin out and still catch the evening light over the shrine. If you’re staying nearby, the Golden Tulip Srinagar is just a kilometre away and offers easy access to the hill.

You could also stop at the small village of Mualawng, just ten kilometres away. It has a hilltop viewpoint that offers a quick panoramic shot of the surrounding valleys, and a tea shop where you can grab a quick snack before heading back.

If you’re heading out before lunch, the stalls in Chalakkayam will have banana chips and mango slices, but they close around noon. For a more filling bite before you start walking, the market in Athirappilly offers fresh fruit and ready to eat snacks. If you want a sit down breakfast, Casa Rio Resorts Athirappilly serves a light menu about 17 km away, so you could stop there for coffee and a quick bite before the dam.

Keibul Lamjao’s visitor centre opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m., so you could hit the park around mid morning and spend a couple of hours before the afternoon heat. From there it’s only a 20 minute drive to Kangla Fort, where you can wander at a relaxed pace and finish by late afternoon. If you want a quick break after the day, the AURORA BOUTIQUE HOTEL in Imphal is a convenient spot to unwind.

The market on the main road usually opens at 6 a.m. and stays lively until about 8 p.m. If you want a sit down option, there’s a small shop a few steps down that serves a simple fish curry with mustard oil great for a solo bite. For a more relaxed vibe, try the stall that sells bhapa pitha with fried fish; it grills the fish right before you. If you need a place to rest afterward, Hotel 16 avenue is just over a kilometer away and offers a quiet lounge area.

If you finish the museum early, the Biodiversity Park is just a five minute walk away, so you can squeeze a quick nature stroll before it closes. The Eco Village sits about a 20 minute drive from the park, so it’s more practical as a second day detour unless you’re willing to extend the day. Staying at Its Hotels Buddha Inn keeps the travel to all three main spots very short.

If you only have a few hours after the falls, you could head straight to the visitor centre, then take the 30 minute Wildlife Trail walk. It’s a quick way to see deer or a fox. After that, a short drive to The Den Corbett gives you a riverside break before you head back.

If you can stay a bit past 5:45 pm, the final *arti* wraps up and the sky turns a deep amber. From a balcony at Pramod Lands End Resort you’ll see the whole sequence and the temple silhouette against that sunset no need to chase the light elsewhere.

A quick tip: if you end up near the station, the 12A bus stops right at the lake entrance, so you can skip the walk entirely. If you’d rather stay close to the lake, the Metropole By Key Board Hotels is only about 800 metres away, making it a convenient base for a quick overnight or a day break. Does anyone know if the 12A runs late into the evening?
