Arriving late afternoon at Taratarini Temple – any timing tips?

Neeraj Vyas · 4 weeks ago ·17 replies

I will reach Taratarini Temple around 5 pm this October. The temple is open all day, so I can come in the evening. I wonder if the sunset view from the hilltop is worth the trip at that hour. Also, are there any special evening rituals I should catch?

If you arrive around 5 pm, the sunset over the hilltop is usually a good view, but the real highlight is the evening puja that starts at sunset. The priests light a large lamp and offer a special *tarang* chant. It’s a quiet, atmospheric ceremony that many visitors find moving. If you’re staying nearby, the Pramod Lands End Resort is just a short drive away and has good views of the temple from its balconies.

You’ll notice the evening puja starts right at sunset. The priests light a big lamp and chant the tarang, which creates a gentle, reverent atmosphere. If you’re staying nearby, the Pramod Lands End Resort has balconies with a clear view of the temple’s silhouette against the fading light, so you can catch the ritual and the sunset in one go.

The evening puja actually starts a few minutes before sunset, so if you get there at 5 pm you’ll catch the lamp lighting right as the sky turns orange. After the chant, the priests perform a brief *arti* that lasts about ten minutes good to see if you’re there a little later. If you’re staying nearby, the balconies at Pramod Lands End Resort give a clear view of the whole ceremony and the fading light. Does anyone know what time the final *arti* ends?

The final *arti* usually wraps up around 5:45 pm, right before the lamp is lowered. If you can stay a few minutes after the main chant, you’ll catch the last light sweeping hymns. Staying at Pramod Lands End Resort gives a clear balcony view of both the sunset and the concluding prayers.

If you get there a bit earlier, you can see the sky turn orange just before the lamp lights. After the tarang, a short *arti* follows that lasts about ten minutes, ending around 5:45 pm. From a balcony at Mayfair Palm Beach Resort Gopalpur you’ll get a clear view of both the sunset and the concluding prayers.

If you stay at Mayfair Palm Beach Resort Gopalpur you can watch the final arti from a balcony that faces the temple. The lamp is lowered around 5:45 pm, so you’ll see the last hymns sweep across the sky just before the lights go out. This gives you both the sunset and the closing prayers in one view.

If you’re staying at Pramod Lands End Resort, the balcony faces the temple directly, so you can watch the lamp light right as the sun dips and then see the final arti finish around 5:45 pm. The view of the temple silhouette against the fading sky is quite striking and gives you both the sunset and the closing prayers in one frame.

If you can stay a bit past 5:45 pm, the final *arti* wraps up and the sky turns a deep amber. From a balcony at Pramod Lands End Resort you’ll see the whole sequence and the temple silhouette against that sunset no need to chase the light elsewhere.

The sunset usually starts around 5:30 pm, so arriving at 5 pm gives you a few minutes to watch the sky change before the lamp lights. If you stay a bit past 5:45 pm you’ll catch the last hymns as the light fades. A balcony at Pramod Lands End Resort offers a clear view of both the sunset and the concluding prayers from a single spot.
