If you’re hoping to see the river dolphins, a sunrise mangrove boat is usually the best bet because the water is calmer and the dolphins are more active. For a chance at elephants or a tiger, schedule the jeep safari in the afternoon when the animals are more likely to move into the open. And if you’re there in winter, a quick walk around the lake after either activity will let you spot the bar headed geese and painted storks that flock to the area. If you stay near Bhubaneswar, Hotel O Saket Homes is a convenient base for both.

November is usually the best month the weather is cooler and the lake looks lush after the rains. Bus services to Hiriyur run fairly regularly, and you’ll find a few departures in the late afternoon that should get you there without too much waiting. If you’re staying nearby, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.

You could park at the fort for free, then head to Rushikonda Beach where the paid lot is usually full by noon. A quick lunch on the beach takes about 45 minutes, then a 15 minute drive to Kailasagiri for sunset before a short 20 minute walk to the zoo. If you’re staying near the fort, the Fortune Inn Sree Kanya has a convenient on site parking spot. Does that timing fit your plan?

A lesser known event was the 1938 royal visit from the Maharaja of Baroda, during which the palace hosted a cultural exchange program that showcased Gujarati folk music and European classical pieces. Guided tours often pause at the pavilion where the exchange took place, explaining how the event influenced later architectural additions. If you’re staying at the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot, the concierge can arrange a walk that covers this pavilion and the surrounding garden layout.

You could squeeze the beach, lighthouse, and a quick Kalingapatnam stop into one long day if you start early. If you’re staying near the airport, Dolphin Hotel’s shuttle can drop you close to the beach, then a local auto can take you to the lighthouse. For the Kalingapatnam detour, a state bus from the beach area runs every two hours, so you’ll have a clear schedule. If you prefer a quieter base, consider staying at Sunray Village Resort, which is only about 15 km from the coast. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you leave the city around 9 am you’ll avoid the early morning traffic, reach the temple by 10, spend 45 minutes, then hit Narayan Sarovar by 11 30, walk the lake, grab a quick snack and be back in time for the 5 pm aarti.

Try shooting just after sunset. The light is still warm but the palace towers cast long shadows that add depth to the greens. Also, you can walk from the palace’s rear gate onto the back tee and angle your shot so the palace sits behind the tee marker this keeps the greens in focus while the palace frames the background. If you need a quick spot to rest, the President Hotel is a kilometre away and easy to reach from the course.

If you’re starting in Poonch, a direct taxi to the temple will take about 1.5 hours and can drop you right at the entrance, saving you the extra bus to Jammu leg. The shared auto from Jammu Tawi is cheaper but adds a few more minutes of travel. Which option works better depends on how early you want to arrive and if you mind a slightly longer ride.

Hola Mohalla is normally held in March, usually the last week of the month. From Chandigarh International Airport you can take a taxi to the city centre and then catch a train or bus to Rupnagar, which is about 35 km away. Staying in Rupnagar keeps you closer to the gurdwaras; a good option is Hotel Sarai Bharatgarh, which is only about 11 km from the town centre.

A quick way is to start at the fort, then head east to Rushikonda, grab lunch at a beachside stall, and finish with a short ride to Kailasagiri before heading back. The beach usually needs a 15 minute parking slot and a 30 minute walk to the shore, while Kailasagiri’s parking is paid but the view is worth it. If you’re staying near the fort, Fortune Inn Sree Kanya is within a couple of minutes of the entrance, so you can drop off your bike and start early.
