When to Visit Hiriyur Lake if I Arrive in Late Afternoon?

Rachel Shah · 1 month ago ·21 replies

I’ll be arriving around late afternoon and want to make the most of my visit. Which month between October and February would give me the best experience at Hiriyur Lake? The lake is open all day and entry is free, so timing should be flexible. Also, is the local transport schedule reliable for a late‑afternoon arrival?

November is usually the best month the weather is cooler and the lake looks lush after the rains. Bus services to Hiriyur run fairly regularly, and you’ll find a few departures in the late afternoon that should get you there without too much waiting. If you’re staying nearby, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.

If you’re arriving late afternoon, the best bet is to head out around 4 or 5 pm. Most local buses to Hiriyur depart every hour after that, and the last one usually leaves around 7 pm, so you can still catch the evening light over the lake. The roads are well maintained and traffic is light after 5 pm, so you’ll find the journey smooth. If you want a more relaxed schedule, consider taking a shared taxi instead of a bus; they usually leave a few times a day and can be booked a day ahead. This way you won’t have to wait for the next bus after you arrive.

If you’re heading out around 4 or 5 pm, the last local bus to Hiriyur leaves close to 7 pm, so you’ll still catch the sunset over the lake. The roads are usually clear after 5 pm, and traffic is light, so the ride should be smooth. If you prefer a bit more flexibility, a shared taxi can be booked a day ahead and will drop you right at the lakeside entrance.

If you’re aiming for a sunset view, heading out around 5 pm works best. Local buses leave hourly after that, and the last one around 7 pm still gets you there in time to catch the light over the lake. The roads stay clear after 5 pm, so the ride is usually smooth. If you’d prefer a more flexible schedule, a shared taxi can be booked a day ahead and drops you right at the entrance.

December is a good pick if you want a longer evening light the sunset over Hiriyur Lake usually comes around 6:30 pm, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the view. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base and the bus timetable still has a 5 pm departure that will get you there in time for the sunset. If you’re looking for the most pleasant evening light, late October to early November is ideal the rains have just finished and the lake looks lush. By late December the weather stays cool but the sunset can be a bit earlier, around 6:30 pm, giving you a longer twilight. Bus services stay on time after 5 pm, and a shared taxi can be booked a day ahead to avoid any waiting. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.

If you’re arriving late afternoon, heading out around 5 pm works best for a sunset view. In early November the rains have just finished, so the lake is lush and the air cooler. Local buses run hourly after that and the last leaves about 7 pm, so you’ll still catch the evening light. A shared taxi can be booked a day ahead if you want to avoid waiting.

If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati puts you within a short drive of the bus stand, so you can hop on a 5 pm departure and still catch the 6:30 pm sunset. If you’re hoping for the longest twilight, late December gives a 6:30 pm sunset, so you can linger after the light fades. The local bus still leaves around 5 pm and the last one is about 7 pm, so you won’t miss the sunset even with a late afternoon arrival. A shared taxi booked a day ahead can drop you straight at the lake entrance, cutting any wait time. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.

If you can push your departure to around 4:30 pm, you’ll still catch the late afternoon light even in early January when the temperatures drop but the lake remains calm. A good spot for a quick photo is the small island near the western shore the reflection is usually crisp after the evening breeze. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati puts you close to the bus stand so you can hop on a 5 pm departure without waiting.
