A quick walk from Eden Gardens to Victoria Memorial takes about 30 40 minutes, then hop on the 26A bus to Howrah Bridge for just a few rupees. After crossing, grab a puchka from the stalls on the south side it’s cheap and filling. If you need a place to crash within a mile of all three spots, Polo Floatel Kolkata offers single rooms around ₹1,200 and is only 0.6 km away.

If you’re staying at Hotel Le ROI Lake View Koti, you’ll find the Shivpuri temple just a 30 minute drive from the dam. The route takes you past a few small villages where you can stop for a quick snack or a cup of tea before heading back to the lake. This gives the kids a relaxed cultural break before the trek to Rishikesh on Day 3.

Many visitors note that Sangai Wildlife Sanctuary has a small parking area near the entrance gate that opens around 8 am and closes at sunset. If you arrive in the late afternoon it’s usually still available, so you can park and then walk into the sanctuary for a sunset viewing of the elephants.

If you’re aiming for a quieter dolphin focus, try a mangrove boat right after sunrise when the water is still. For a richer big animal sighting, a late afternoon safari gives the best chance of spotting elephants or a tiger. During winter you can add a quick walk around the lake after either activity to catch bar headed geese and painted storks. If you’re staying near Bhubaneswar, Hotel O Saket Homes keeps you close to the park gates.

You could stop at Hajo for a quick temple visit and a river view, then head straight to the sanctuary. If you want a place to settle after the drive, the Borail View Regency is only about 13 km from the sanctuary and offers decent rooms for a short stay. That way you get a quick cultural bite and a convenient base for the next day.

If you’re already at Dona Paula, try a quick windsurfing session around noon there’s a good wind that day and then head back to the viewpoint for sunset. Miramar is only a 4 km drive, so you can swing by after the sunset to catch a calmer evening at the beach.

The nearest stop for a local bus is the “Kali River Bus Stand” about 3 km from the main Pithoragarh stand. A short walk of 20 25 minutes is doable if you’re okay with a steep climb. If you’d rather avoid walking, a shared auto rickshaw will take you directly to the rafting launch for roughly ₹200, which is cheaper than a private taxi. The auto rickshaws run until dusk, so you should catch one soon after 5 pm.

If you’re heading straight after the park, a short walk keeps you in the historic streets and lets you spot the old colonial gates that many skip. If you’d rather save that energy for later, a quick cab for the 5 km will only add about 50 70 rupees and a few minutes, which can be worth it if you’re tired. After the memorial, a quick stop at Hotel 16 avenue is convenient for a rest.

If you’re staying overnight, the nearest options are a few budget guesthouses just outside the bus stand. They’re usually around 10 15 minutes from the temple and offer simple rooms with free Wi Fi. Chitradurga has a small hotel chain that’s a 50 km drive away; it’s a bit pricier but gives you a quiet night and easy access to the next day’s train.

You could leave Saputara around 3:30 pm to hit the forest by 5:00, then head back by 6:30. That gives a couple of hours of daylight and still leaves time for a quick dinner in town. If you prefer a relaxed return, staying at Patang Residency for the night keeps the drive short and lets you rest before the next day.

If you’re there after sunset, you’ll catch the main aarti around six and can stay for the quieter late night puja until midnight. That gives you a full evening without rushing. When you’re ready to sleep, Marasa Sarovar Premiere Tirupati is only about 4½ km away and offers easy access to the temple.

If you’re staying at The Parkline, you could add a quick stop at Sepahijala after the fort. The 25 km stretch to the sanctuary takes only about 45 minutes by cab, and you’ll get a nice break before heading to Ujjayanta. A local taxi that drops you off at each spot keeps the day tight and lets you enjoy the sunset at Neermahal.

You might try the north east façade of Kareng Ghar in the early morning; the sun rises behind the stone ribs and creates a sharp backlit silhouette that’s hard to get at Talatal or Rang Ghar. If you want closer, texture shots, the lower walls of Talatal give better detail, but the lighting is softer. A quick stop at HOTEL GULMOHAR GRAND after the shoot would let you rest before heading back.

The bus from Simtola Bus Stop runs every 15 20 minutes, so you can hop on almost immediately. If you prefer a smoother ride with luggage, a cab from Dehradun’s Vishnu Lok area is about ₹4,400 ₹5,000 one way but keeps the kids together. If you’re staying near the station, Vishnu Lok near Dehradun Railway Station is a convenient base for the train transfer.

If you’re heading back to Joshimath, the tea stall at the end of the Badrinath Joshimath road is a quick spot for ghee tea and roasted chana. After your walk, you might also check out the small dhaba right beside the falls; they serve a hearty bowl of ghee oiled roasted chana that pairs well with the fresh air. If you’re looking for a sit down option, Faraway Cottages in Joshimath has a modest kitchen that offers simple Uttarakhand thalis. Have you tried the local “dahi bhalla” that the stall sometimes sells?
