You might also consider breaking the trek into three stages: Manikaran to Kheerganga (about 6 km), a rest day at a guest house near Kheerganga, then Kheerganga to the ridge and a short overnight near the pass. Staying at the Apple Orchard Resort By Royal Collection in Dhanaulti gives a comfortable base before the ridge climb, and the trail from there is well marked for kids. Early June, around the 9th 10th, usually gives the driest weather before the monsoon starts.

A quick walk from the zoo to the temple takes only about fifteen minutes, so if you finish the museum by 10:30 a.m. you can squeeze in the zoo before it closes at noon and still hit the temple before the afternoon rush. Staying at Vivanta Thiruvananthapuram would keep all three spots within a half kilometre walk. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Hotel Atharv, the temple walk is just a few minutes away and you can fit it in before lunch. A quick drive to Panhala takes you past the rural roads that give the fort its strategic view, but you’ll spend more time on the road than on the walls. For a tight day, the temple lets you explore local life and still feel the historical pulse of Kolhapur.

If you want a bit more light in the frame, try setting up a bit east of the shoreline around 5:45 am. The sun will be higher, giving a softer rim on the waves, and you can still avoid the first crowd. A small tripod is handy for that longer exposure, but a sturdy palm tree can also hold the camera if you’re short on gear. If you’re staying near the beach, the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa is only about a half kilometre away, so you can grab a coffee before heading out.

A good spot is the “Raja Kalyan” dhaba just a 200 meter walk from the temple entrance. It opens at 6 am and serves idlis, dosas, and the classic Andhra vada patties with sambar. From the temple you turn right onto the main road, walk straight until you see the dhaba on the left. It’s a quick walk and the food is authentic.

The stall on the left side of the main path is a quick spot for a chapati with dal and a small sweet. If you want a quieter place, the ARTILLA INN is only a short walk away and has a small cafeteria that offers Gujarati thali items. This gives you a relaxed option before the evening pooja.

If you’re staying near the falls, try the small stone ledge just before the loop trail it gives a 180 degree view of the 750 foot drop and lets you frame the mist against the forest canopy. A quick stop at a local tea stall gives a good break and a cool drink before you head back out.

A good quick stop after the hill is the local market near the Jagannath Temple; you can grab a quick bite and see some local crafts before heading back. If you have a bit more time, try catching the sunset from the hilltop the light around 6 pm usually gives a nice golden glow over the temples. Does anyone know the best time for that?

The Bishnupur Museum is closed on Mondays, so if you’re planning a weekday visit it’ll be open all day. If you stay a kilometer away, like at Hotel Annapurna, you can walk to the temples, Jor Bangla and the museum without extra bus fare. Do you think a short overnight stay would give you enough time to explore all three sites?

You might want to bring a light jacket for the early morning trek, as it can be chilly near the lake even in October. Also, check if there’s a parking spot at the lake before you head to Chaurasi Temple sometimes the area gets busy on weekends.

You could stay at Surya Heritage Hotels in Kannur it’s only about 8.6 km from the temple. From the bus stop a local service to Kannur takes roughly 15 minutes; once there a short auto or shared taxi will drop you near the hotel. After the temple visit, the old Kannur Fort area is free to wander and gives a quick glimpse of local history before heading to Payyambalam Beach for a sunset walk.

You could add a half day on the third day for a coffee estate that opens at 7 am. That lets you finish the Mullayanagiri trek by noon and still walk through the plantations before dinner. If you want a comfortable base, stay at Hotel Aadrika, just a kilometre from the town centre.

A short walk from the parking to the waterfall is about ten minutes, and the stream is shallow enough for kids to splash safely. If you stay at Hotel Rishiraj in Hojai, the staff can arrange a pickup and give you a quick route map. In October the trails are usually dry after the monsoon, but a light rain jacket is still handy for the walk.

You could stay at Regenta Resort Madhuganga Ukhimath on Day 1. From Rishikesh the bus to Ukhimath runs roughly every 2 hours and takes about 6½ hours, so you’ll arrive in the afternoon. On Day 2, after visiting Madhyamaheshwar early, hop on the local bus that departs around 10 am for Tungnath it’s a 2 hour ride and the only reliable option. If you’re up for a trek, the 4 km walk to Chopta from Joshimath takes about 1.5 hours and the valley of flowers is a short drive from there.
