A quick note: if you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar you’re only about 340 m from Wilson Point, so you can hit the spot by 5:30 am on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Those mornings usually have fewer clouds and the crowds from Venna Lake and Mapro Garden haven’t yet started to fill the area, giving you a clearer view before the day heats up.

If you’re staying at the Time Square Resort and Spa in Bhuj, try leaving the hotel around 9 am. That gives you a quiet drive to the 24 hour temple, a quick 45 minute visit, then a 5 km drive to Narayan Sarovar by 11 am. Walk the lake for about 40 minutes, grab a snack, and you’ll be back in time for the 5 pm aarti.

A good trick is to book the mangrove boat for just after sunrise the water is calm and the river dolphins are most active then. If you’re hoping for a tiger or elephant, schedule the safari for the late afternoon when the animals come out to feed. During winter, a short walk around the lake after either activity can catch bar headed geese and painted storks. If you’re staying near Bhubaneswar, Hotel O Saket Homes keeps you close to the park gates.

If you want an extra quiet spot, a short walk from the Tip n Top parking takes you to a small shrine that locals say stays clear even in late afternoon. From there you can head straight to the fort, which opens until 5 pm and lets you wander the walls without crowds. Afterward, The Green Village Eco Resort Jageshwar is a decent place to relax.

If you want to catch the sunrise earlier, the 5:30 a.m. state bus from Agartala drops you near the Jampui entrance about 15 minutes before the 6 a.m. bus. That gives you a few extra minutes to stroll through the village market and grab a quick breakfast before heading up to the tea garden viewpoint. Also, consider stopping at the Baghmara Tea Estate on the way back for a quieter walk. Would a short stay at Lake Side Resort Neermahal after the hike suit your family’s rest needs?

If you have a few minutes, the KIIT University campus has a small lake fed by a stream that runs through the grounds a quiet spot for a quick stretch and a cup of coffee from one of the campus cafés. It’s about six kilometres from the garden and stays well within the 20 km limit.

If you want a dramatic foreground, try shooting from the viewpoint on the Gun Hill trail that faces the falls. The angle lets you capture the mist rising from the water and the surrounding pine canopy, giving a strong vertical composition. Early morning still gives softer light, but the light just after sunrise can highlight the dew on the leaves for a crisp shot.

If you’re staying at Regenta Central Lucknow, try an early weekday morning around 7:30 am. The courtyard is almost empty, the light is soft, and the gilded panels catch a warm glow before the first visitors arrive. This window is often quieter than the 9 am slot, giving you a clean shot of the architectural detail.

If you have a few minutes left, the Lingaraj Temple is just about 12 km away. It’s a historic site with impressive architecture and a peaceful courtyard, a nice contrast to the botanical surroundings.

If you catch the 6 am bus from Dehradun, you’ll avoid the heavy traffic that builds after noon and still reach the temple in about 4.5 hours. The Hanuman Chatti stop is roughly three kilometres from the shrine, so a short walk or a local auto will finish the journey. If you prefer a cab, booking from Jolly Grant Airport a day in advance locks the price and you’ll still see a similar drive time.

If you’re hitting the falls after the descent, bring a small water bottle the trail can be dry in October and early November. The water level at Hidlumane drops noticeably after the monsoon, so the falls look less dramatic then.

A good option after Utsav is the small Nandi Hills Park, just a kilometer away. It has a quiet lake and benches for a relaxed stroll. If you need a quick break, Vivanta Bengaluru on Residency Road is a minute’s walk from there.

You might also try the small riverside park near Shivpuri Ghat for sunrise there’s a clear line to the river and fewer crowds before 5:30 am. For sunset, the steps at Sarnath Ghat catch a warm glow that’s less crowded than Assi. If you’re staying close, the Hotel Abhinav International is just a short walk from both spots.

If you’re looking for the most pleasant evening light, late October to early November is ideal the rains have just finished and the lake looks lush. By late December the weather stays cool but the sunset can be a bit earlier, around 6:30 pm, giving you a longer twilight. Bus services stay on time after 5 pm, and a shared taxi can be booked a day ahead to avoid any waiting. If you’re staying near Tirupati, the Pai Viceroy Hotel Tirupati is a convenient base.

The 1 km path around the lake is lined with mature banyan trees, so you’ll spot kingfishers and herons early evening. If you’re hungry, the small kiosk near the pavilion sells fresh coconut water and local snacks. And if you want a quick break after the boat ride, the lawn right next to the pavilion is a popular spot for a short picnic.
