Best time to catch sunrise at Wilson Point on a weekend in October?

Irfan Banerjee · 1 month ago ·19 replies

I’m planning a quick weekend getaway to Mahabaleshwar and want to make the most of Wilson Point. Since October is listed as a good month for visiting, should I head there on Saturday or Sunday to catch the sunrise? Also, are there any particular days of the week that tend to have clearer skies? I’d love to know if the sunrise is typically better on one day versus the other, and what I can expect in terms of crowds. By the way, I heard that Venna Lake and Mapro Garden are close by-does that affect the view or the best time to visit?

If you want a quieter sunrise, aim for a weekday Tuesday or Wednesday usually have fewer clouds. The view from Wilson Point is best early, before the crowds start, so a Saturday morning can get packed, especially if you’re near Venna Lake or Mapro Garden. Staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar puts you close to the point and you’ll have a good spot to catch the light without too many other visitors.

If you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar you’ll be only a few hundred metres from Wilson Point, so you can get a good spot early. A mid week morning, like Tuesday, usually has fewer clouds and fewer crowds, especially if you’re near Venna Lake and Mapro Garden. Those spots can block the view later in the day, so aim for the first light. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar you’re only a few hundred metres from Wilson Point, so you can beat the crowds by heading out around 5:30 am. The sky is usually clearer on Monday or Tuesday, and early morning light gives a crisp view before the lake’s reflections start to blur the horizon.

If you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar, you’ll be just 350 m from Wilson Point, so a mid morning start around 5:30 am on a Tuesday or Wednesday gives a clear view before the crowds from Venna Lake and Mapro Garden arrive. Sundays tend to get a bit busier after the weekend, so a weekday morning is usually preferable for a quieter sunrise.

A good rule of thumb is to aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Those days usually have fewer clouds and the crowds that gather after the weekend are still thin. If you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar you’ll be only a few hundred metres from Wilson Point, so you can get a clear view before anyone else arrives. Venna Lake and Mapro Garden only start filling up a little later, so they don’t really affect the early sunrise.

If you’re staying at Evershine Resort & Spa you’re about a kilometre from Wilson Point, so you can get a good spot early before the crowds from Venna Lake and Mapro Garden start filling the area. This can make the sunrise slightly less crowded than a Saturday morning.

Those mornings usually have fewer clouds and the crowds from Venna Lake and Mapro Garden haven’t started yet, so the view is clearer. If you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar, the point is just a few hundred metres away, so you can hit it by 5:30 am. A Saturday sunrise still draws a crowd from the lake and garden areas, while a Sunday tends to be a touch lighter after the weekend rush. Early weekday mornings, especially Tuesday or Wednesday, usually have fewer clouds and fewer people, giving a clearer view before the lake’s reflections come in.

A quick tip: if you’re staying at Citrus Chamber Mahabaleshwar you can reach Wilson Point by 5:30 am on a Tuesday or Wednesday and usually get a clear sky before the lake’s reflections start. Saturday mornings can still be busy, and the Sunday crowd tends to swell after the weekend’s visitors. Do you prefer the quieter weekday start or are you okay with a slightly busier sunrise?
