You might want to leave a bit of time after the lake for a short walk up the hill near the boat launch; the view of the floating phumdis from there is a nice bonus. On the second day, instead of heading straight to Imphal, consider stopping at the local market in Kangpokpi first it’s a good spot to taste the regional cuisine and pick up a few souvenirs before you drive to the fort. Classic Grande Imphal would keep you close to the main roads and the sites, and you can ask the concierge for the best local taxi rates.

After the temple you could stroll to the nearby Chauth Mata gate where kids can run around the open courtyard. From there, a short walk to the Jodhpur Clock Tower gives a quick city view before heading to Mehrangarh. The fort is open until 5 pm, so you’ll still have time to explore the palace gardens inside. If you want a place to rest, FabHotel Prime The Jodhpur is just a few kilometres away and has good family rooms.

MJ Sarovar Portico is just 0.15 km from the temple, so you can walk in under a minute. If you’d rather stay a bit farther, Abhyudyam Ganga is 0.4 km away and still a short stroll. Does anyone know if the dhabas on the riverbank take card payments, or do they only accept cash?

If you’re looking for something a bit closer than Vantawng, check out the small waterfall near Khliehriat it’s only about 15 km from Tam Dil and you can walk the trail in under an hour. The view is pretty good and the walk takes you through a patch of tea gardens, so you’ll get a quick taste of the local scenery without a long drive.

If you’re looking for a quiet spot to wait out the brief showers, the Hornbill Nest Resort’s garden stays dry even when clouds roll in. It’s only about a kilometre away and gives you a good break before the afternoon rain starts. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re aiming for a quick cultural stop, note that the main temple complex in Sirpur opens around 6 am and closes around 7 pm, so you could start early, hit the main stupas and then head back before sunset. This keeps the drive under an hour and lets you avoid the longer Kanger Valley round trip.

If you’re staying near Athirappilly, a quick 5 km drive to Vazhachal is definitely worth it the mist is still thick at sunrise and the trail is short. After that, a short walk to the nearby village of Kattappana, about 20 km away, offers a quiet river path and a local tea stall that opens around 6 am. If you need a convenient base for those early walks, Niraamaya Retreats Samroha is just over a kilometre from the falls.

A good option is to hit the western hot spring pool right after sunrise, around 6 am, when the footfall drops sharply. From there you can walk straight to the village square and then head to Kasol. If you’re looking for a place to stay that keeps you close to the trailheads and the quieter part of the springs, The Hosteller Kasol Riverside is only a 5 minute walk away.

You could also head to the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, about 60 km from Saptasajya. It’s a short drive and offers a great mix of history and daily worship. If you need a place to stay, Hotel O Saket Homes is a convenient option nearby.

If you take the shared cab from the airport, most drivers will drop you near the Lonavala Railway Station and the lake is only about a kilometre away by road. The local 12A bus that runs from the station stops right at the lake entrance, so you can hop off and walk a few minutes. If you prefer a quick walk, the distance from the station to the lake is roughly ten minutes through the pine lined road. Does anyone know if the 12A bus schedule changes in the evenings?

A good tip is to check the mosque’s prayer schedule; the evening prayer around 5 pm usually brings a cooler breeze and softer light, making the stonework easier to read. If you’re staying near Ponda, Treebo Rock Valley is only a short drive away, so you can head straight for the twilight visit after dinner.

You might also try shooting during a low tide. The exposed rock faces can add depth to the cliff line and give a different texture to the sand. A small, lightweight 24 70mm zoom with a polarising filter will keep glare down and let you capture both the cliffs and the sea in a single frame. If you’re staying nearby, Villa Luca By Elixir Cliff is only a kilometre away and has easy cliff access. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

The best early morning light at Chandra Peak comes just before sunrise, around 5:30 am. The ridge glows in a soft amber that makes the jagged peaks pop. If you can stay a bit longer, the 10 minute walk to Tungnath lets you frame the valley from a higher angle, especially around 6 am when the sun is just over the peaks. For a quick recharge after the trek, Regenta Resort Madhuganga Ukhimath is a convenient stop.

A quick stop at the pavilion kiosk for coconut water is handy if you’re pressed for time. The lawn just outside the pavilion, shaded by banyan trees, works well for a short picnic, especially in the late afternoon when the light warms the water and the trees cast gentle shadows.

If you’re only stopping for a couple of hours, aim to arrive before noon so you can find parking and walk to the trailhead without rush. The river’s clear and the valley is lush from late spring through early autumn, so a quick detour still lets you enjoy the scenery. If you have a night to spare, staying at The Hosteller Tirthan Valley gives you easy access to both the river and the park’s sunrise walks.
