What nearby sites should I visit from Saptasajya as a solo traveler?

Trupti Bhatnagar · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m looking for a few spots to add to my day after Saptasajya. I know Bhimkund is about 50 km away and Joranda Falls is roughly 40 km from the hill. Are there any other attractions worth a quick visit within a two‑hour drive?

You could also swing by the Khandagiri and Udayagiri caves. They’re only about twenty kilometres from Bhubaneswar and give a quick glimpse of ancient rock cut architecture and a nice view over the city. It’s a short detour before heading back to your next stop.

If you have a little extra time, the ancient ash temple at Dhauli is only about a 90 minute drive from Saptasajya. The site sits on a flat plateau overlooking the Ganga valley and is famous for its peace keeping inscriptions. It’s a quick stop that gives a sense of Odisha’s early Buddhist history and a nice view of the surrounding hills. If you’re staying in Bhubaneswar afterwards, Hotel O Saket Homes is a convenient option.

If you have a little extra time on the way to Bhubaneswar, the Bhubaneswar City Museum has a small but interesting exhibit of traditional Odishan dance costumes and accessories that you can see in a quick 15 minute walk. It’s a nice way to get a feel for the local culture before you head into the larger temples.

If you’re heading toward Bhubaneswar, the Jagannath Temple is only about sixty kilometres away. The temple complex houses three deities Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra and the daily rituals there give a good sense of the city’s spiritual life.
