If you want a quick stop before heading east, the church is only a few minutes from the bus station and gives a nice angle of the old stone façade. After the waterfalls you can take the same road back north to the park, then head straight to Aizawl and check into Hotel Dinthar Zara for a relaxed stay.

You could try shooting from the rear of the central pillar, but this time angle the lens so the arch’s light falls across the kids’ shoulders, creating a subtle halo. A step back lets the stone lintel frame them while the carved pillars add depth. If you’re staying nearby, Hotel Akanksha in Jagdalpur is a convenient option.

If you’re staying at The Greenwood Resort, the concierge can arrange a quick ride to the Biodiversity Park. From there you can hop on a local bus to the Assam State Zoo, which is only a 5 minute drive away. After a short walk around the zoo you can catch the same bus back to the park, then take a taxi or a 30 minute ride to Kamakhya Temple. The whole loop fits comfortably into a day.

The museum’s entrance is free and they have a parking lot right outside the main gate, so you won’t have to look for street parking. If you’re staying at Green land Tower Hotel, you can drop your bags and head straight to the park, then hop into a taxi for the short 3 km drive to the museum. After that, a quick 10 minute ride gets you to the temple, and the final 8 km stretch to the caves takes about 20 minutes. This keeps the whole loop well before sunset. Does anyone have a tip on the best time to visit the caves?

Taxis from Kotdwar are usually available, but it’s a good idea to book a local driver a day before you arrive, especially if the road has seen recent rain. The stretch between Kotdwar and Lansdowne can still be slick in early November, so a driver who knows the route will be handy. If you’re coming from Dehradun, the 3 hour drive is straightforward and most taxis operate on a fixed fare. Once you’re in Lansdowne, the town’s narrow lanes are easier to navigate with a local cab. Have you checked if the driver will have a local SIM for easier communication?

A quick KSRTC bus from Aluva to Thattekad usually leaves around 7 am and 9 am, so you could catch the early morning sunrise at the sanctuary and still have time to head back to Paniyeli Poru for a relaxed afternoon stroll. If you prefer a more flexible schedule, a shared taxi from Aluva takes about 30 minutes and you can drive directly to the poru and then hop on a local bus to Thattekad when you’re ready.

Rajrappa’s riverbank is best seen in the early light, so if you leave the park around 6 am you’ll find the steps almost empty. After the walk you could stop in Hazaribagh town for a quick chai before heading back. If you’re staying in Ranchi, the Radisson Blu Hotel is a convenient base and gives you a good spot to recharge after the drive.

The lake’s southern entrance has a small playground area that’s nice for a quick stretch before you hit the road.

If you’re already heading to Rameswaram, a short detour to stay at the Pai Viceroy Hotel in Tirupati can give you a nice base for exploring the town’s own temples before you head back.

If you’re planning a quick trip, staying at Super Townhouse Gajuwaka Near CMR Mall puts you a short walk from the park entrance and close to the bus stop that drops you right at the gates. That means you can arrive just before the 8 pm briefing, catch the live demo, and then head straight to the beach or back to the hotel without hunting for parking.

If you’re only looking for a quick hop, the fastest link is via Silchar or Guwahati to Port Blair, then a speedboat that runs a few times a day to Great Nicobar. The boat takes about an hour and leaves early morning, noon and late afternoon, so timing your arrival from Silchar or Guwahati is key. Afterward, Sea Shell Havelock on Havelock Island is a convenient spot for a quick bite or to drop luggage before heading back.

If you’re already staying at the Polo Orchid Resort, you can drop off a stroller at the parking and walk straight to the forest gate it’s just a few minutes away. On a weekday the bus from Ramukhrai usually takes about 35 minutes, while on weekends it can stretch to 45 50 minutes due to extra traffic. An early start, say around 7:30 am, keeps you clear of the morning rush on both days.

If you’re staying at Hotel Taj Resorts, you’ll be right next to the Mehtab Bagh deck. The garden stays fairly quiet from opening at 5 am until about 6 pm; after that the crowd swells but still stays below the main Taj Mahal entrance. So an early morning slot gives you a calm walk and good light for photos, while a 24 hour slot lets you enjoy the garden before the sunset rush.

If you’re staying near Cherrapunji, the Polo Orchid Resort is a handy base. From there you can hit the Dawki Bridge first, then drive about an hour to the living root bridges and a short 30 minute walk to Mawlynnong. That way you get the river history and the iconic root bridge walk before the village tour.

If you’re not staying at a hotel, there’s a small dhaba about 300 meters from the caves that serves a vegetarian thali with dhokla, kadhi and a fresh kachumber salad. The place is quiet, with a simple seating layout that lets you enjoy the calm after a morning of exploring the carvings.
