Quick bite options on Baker Street in Puducherry?

Tushar Vasishth · 7 hours ago ·6 replies

I’m on a tight schedule in Puducherry and need a quick spot on Baker Street that serves tasty food. Baker Street is open 24 hours and known for its vibrant cafés and colonial vibes. What are the top spots for a quick bite or snack? Also, any local specialty worth trying before I head to Promenade Beach?

If you’re on Baker Street and need something fast, the Café du Midi right next to the old post office is a solid choice. They serve fresh sandwiches, a quick chai, and their banana fritters are a local hit. A quick stop at the nearby Pappas Bakery for a slice of their signature banana cake is worth it before you head to Promenade Beach. If you’re staying nearby, Hotel Sun Park is only a short walk away and has a small on site café that stays open late.

You might also try the small stall at the corner of Baker Street and St. George Street they serve a quick “puducherry fry” of coconut spiced fried fish that’s very popular with locals. If you’re looking for something sweet, grab a “mangai” (a sweet banana fritter) from the street vendor near the old post office before you head to the beach. Have you tried the local fish curry yet?

If you’re in a hurry, the small coconut crepe stall near the old post office on Baker Street is a quick, tasty stop. It’s open all night and the coconut filling is a local favorite.

You might also stop by the tiny stall on the corner of Baker Street and St. George Street that sells a quick puducherry fry of coconut spiced fish. It’s open all night and the fish is still warm. If you’re near the beach later, grab a cup of local mango pickle tea from a vendor near the old post office it’s a quick, refreshing way to finish your snack.

If you’re looking for something quick after the banana fritter, try the coconut crepe stall near the old post office it’s open all night and the sweet coconut filling is a local favourite. Do you want a recommendation for a quick drink to go with it?
