In October the western trail’s rock steps stay dry, and the early morning mist over the lake gives a dreamy backdrop for long exposures. If you want a quiet spot to set up your tripod, the riverside terrace at Vatsyayana A Himalayan Boutique Resort is perfect. It’s close to the lake and the staff can point you to the best sunrise angles.

You can also use the public restrooms along the main path they stay open all day, so you can stop for a quick cool down whenever the heat feels too intense.

If you’re already at the station and want a quick ride, you could also try a local auto rickshaw that heads straight onto NH 50. They’re usually cheaper than taxis and you can negotiate a flat rate for the 10 km stretch. Just make sure the driver knows the route to the vineyard entrance.

You might also want a lightweight sunscreen the midday sun can still be strong even if the temperature is around 32 °C. A small, packable rain poncho works well with the occasional shower that October can bring.

The museum has a free 2 hour guided tour that starts at 9 a.m. If you arrive right after the park, you can catch that and then head to the temple by 11 a.m. The temple’s main hall opens at 10 a.m., so you’ll still be in time for the light show at sunset. A quick lunch around 1 p.m. will give you energy for the 8 km drive to the caves, which are open until 6 p.m. If you need a place to stay near the park, Green land Tower Hotel is just a few hundred metres away.

A quick early morning trip to Chitrakote is usually best. The river flow is lower, so the kids can splash safely without getting soaked too much. Pack waterproof shoes and a light jacket for the kids. After the falls you can head back to Hotel Akanksha and let them unwind in the indoor pool. Do you think the kids would enjoy a quick tea break at a nearby stall on the way back?

FabHotel Prime Royal Inn is the closest and its rooms are often booked with a queen size bed and a small balcony, which is nice for a quiet night after temple visits. The Bihu Dhara restaurant on the opposite side of the street is renowned for its fish curry and pithas, and the staff usually recommend the traditional “Khar” dish if you want something truly local.

Have you checked the 5 pm bus from Bhatkal to Shirali in mid October? It runs daily, so you can leave after sunset and still get back the same evening. This makes that month a good option for a short, low cost trip.

You could book a room at The Park Hotel Visakhapatnam. It’s only a 15 minute walk to Rama Krishna Beach and the INS Kursura Submarine Museum. From the railway station the cheapest route is still city bus 32; it stops right at the beach entrance, so you can hop off and walk to the museum in a few minutes. Do you need tips on which bus stop is closest to the museum entrance?

If you’re tight on time, you could take a shared auto from the station directly to the shore; it usually drops you a few minutes before the beach, saving the extra bus wait. After a quick swim, you could head back to the station and catch your next flight. If you need a place to freshen up before you leave, Kokanwadi Resort in Dhokamale is just under 18 km away and offers budget rooms and showers.

Try a shot from the western parapet just before sunrise the sun will hit the carved façade directly, giving a warm rim around the gold leaf. If you move a step back, you’ll capture the full dome with the courtyard still empty. From the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot parking you can walk straight to that spot and get a clean, low angle view.

The Imphal Zoo is just a five minute walk from the temple and has a small playground that kids usually love. If you’re staying close to the temple, The Padma is only 0.95 km away and has a dedicated play area for children, making it a convenient choice for a family stay. If you’re staying at Urban Living, the museum café’s terrace gives a clear view of the city skyline a great spot to watch the sun set over the hills after your Durtlang hike. Also, the café’s local bamboo tea is a quick, refreshing break before you head back to Thangliana Lung.

If you’re staying at D Royal Palm, the concierge can drop you off at the estate’s parking lot around 8 am. The tea gardens open early, so you’ll avoid the mid day rush and can even ask for a brief tea tasting session before the main group arrives. A mid morning slot keeps the walk relaxed and the light great for photos. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You can also catch a shared auto from the airport to the Ranakpur bus stand; it’s usually cheaper than the city bus and still takes about the same two hours. Once you’re in Ranakpur, the temple is only a short walk from the stop. If you’re looking for a place to stay without breaking the bank, the WelcomHeritage Maharani Bagh Orchard Retreat is a decent option a few kilometres away.
