What activities can I plan around Thangliana Lung this weekend?

Subhashree Borah · 3 weeks ago ·18 replies

I’m thinking about a quick weekend trip to Aizawl and want to know what to do around Thangliana Lung. The monument itself is free and open all day, so I can explore it early and stay for the panoramic view of the city. A short walk to Durtlang Hills-about 5 km away-offers a good hike and photography spot. The Mizoram State Museum is just 3 km from the site, so it’s easy to add a cultural visit.

You might also want to grab a quick bite at the small café near the museum; they serve local tea and a few light snacks that are a nice break before heading back to Thangliana Lung. If you’re looking for a place to stay close to everything, the Emerald Hotel is only a short walk from the monument.

If you’re staying at the Emerald Hotel, you can walk up to the museum in about ten minutes. The cafe there also offers a quick tea break before you head back to Thangliana Lung.

A good spot to catch the sunrise over the hills is right near the trailhead for Durtlang, so try to start the walk early in the morning. After the hike you can head back toward the city and grab a quick tea at the small café by the museum, then stroll back to Thangliana Lung for a sunset view. If you’re staying overnight, the Emerald Hotel is just a short walk from the monument and the museum.

If you’re staying at the Emerald Hotel, you can walk to the museum in about ten minutes and then head out to Durtlang Hills right after the museum visit. The trailhead is a short stretch from the museum, so you’ll have plenty of daylight for both the hike and a sunset photo at Thangliana Lung.

If you’re heading out early, the trail to Durtlang Hills opens at sunrise and the light is great for photos. After the hike, try the local bamboo tea at the small café near the museum it’s a quick, inexpensive stop before you head back to Thangliana Lung for sunset. If you need a place to rest, the Emerald Hotel is only a short walk away.

The museum cafe also has a small seating area overlooking the city; you can catch the early morning light there before heading up to Durtlang. If you want a comfortable base, the Emerald Hotel is just a short walk from both the monument and the museum, making it easy to return for a quick rest after the hike.

If you’re heading out after the museum, you can loop back to the café for a quick tea before catching the sunset at Thangliana Lung. The café’s seating overlooks the city, so you’ll catch the light from two angles the museum side and the hill side which makes for great photos. Afterward, a short walk to the Emerald Hotel lets you unwind without a long trek.

If you’re staying at Urban Living, the museum café’s terrace gives a clear view of the city skyline a great spot to watch the sun set over the hills after your Durtlang hike. Also, the café’s local bamboo tea is a quick, refreshing break before you head back to Thangliana Lung.

You could finish the Durtlang hike by heading back toward the city and stopping at the nearby local market on the way to Thangliana Lung. The stalls there sell fresh bamboo tea and small snacks that pair well with the panoramic view. If you need a place to unwind after the trek, the Emerald Hotel is just a short walk from the monument.

The Durtlang trail is pretty easy, so you can comfortably finish the hike by mid afternoon and still catch a sunset at Thangliana Lung. If you’re staying at the EMERALD HOTEL you can walk back in just a few minutes. Have you thought about stopping at the local market near the trailhead for a quick snack before heading back? If you’re up for a quick detour, there’s a small market right near the Durtlang trailhead where you can grab a snack or a cup of fresh bamboo tea before heading back. It’s a nice way to taste local flavors and then enjoy the sunset from Thangliana Lung.
