A quick stroll around the lawns takes about 30 minutes, but if you’re there in the evening you can enjoy the sunset over the park. Unkal Lake is roughly a 15 minute drive from the Municipal Corporation Park and offers a nice walk along the shore and some bird watching. If you’re looking for a place to stay nearby, Denissons Hotel is just over 2 km away and has good reviews.

If you decide to stay, you could grab a quick mango lassi at the bus stand, then stroll to the small park beside the station for a short walk and a shaded seat. After that, a quick visit to the Sri Venkateswara temple gives a calm break before the next train. If you need a place to rest a bit longer, the Lemon Tree Premier Vijayawada is a short drive away and offers comfortable rooms.

A good spot is the south side of the courtyard a few minutes before sunrise. The light will hit the carved panels from below, casting soft highlights on the gold leaf. If you bring a tripod, you can keep the shutter speed slow for a clean, sharp dome shot while the courtyard stays empty. A polarising filter helps cut glare on the metalwork.

You could also stop at the town of Anantapur for a quick meal before heading to the temple. The town has a few budget spots, but if you want a comfortable night, Hotel O Anantapur is only a few minutes from the temple and offers decent rooms for under 2000 INR. After the temple you’ll be on the same road to Lepakshi and then the caves, so the drive stays straight.

Since Deomali is free and open all day, a cheap day trip from a nearby Araku base saves the biggest chunk of money. If you need a place to stay, Vana Resort offers simple rooms and is only twelve kilometres away, so you can leave early, hit the summit, and return before dark without extra overnight fees. This keeps both lodging and transport costs low.

If you’re up for a quick stroll, the Deer Park is a 1.5 km walk to Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, so you can see the deer early and then head straight to the caves before they open at 9 am. If you’d rather grab a coffee first, the Green land Tower Hotel is right by the Kalinga Stadium area and has a good spot for a quick break before you hit the caves.

If you’re staying at Cygnett Inn Imperial, ask the front desk for a quick map of the parking spot at Donmotul it’s close to the trailhead, so the kids can start the walk right away. The area also has a small play corner with a few swings that keeps them entertained while you enjoy the view. October’s dry spell usually leaves the trail clear, so it’s a safe time to go.

You can also take the local bus number 2 from the nearby stop; it drops right at the garden entrance and costs just a few rupees. The garden has a small kiosk where you can buy bottled water if you forget yours.

If you’re tight on time, the 30 minute boat hop to Umananda works best early in the morning, before the river traffic picks up. After the temple you can quickly walk to Peacock House and then head back, keeping the afternoon heat short.

You could also look at Bay View Hotel Vizag. It’s only about 0.64 km from the beach, so you can walk to the museum in a few minutes. The rooms are mid range, and October rates stay below 300 rupees. From the station, the city bus 32 is still the cheapest, and it stops right at the beach entrance, so you can hop off and walk straight to the museum. If you land around 4 pm and want a quick route, a cab from the airport is the safest bet. The HAYATHI INN is only a few hundred metres from the Five Rathas, so if you stay there you can walk straight to the site and skip any last minute bus or train checks.

If you’re staying close to the museum, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is only a short walk away and has a free shuttle that runs every half hour. The museum usually opens at 10 am and closes at 5 pm, so you can catch the cooler part of the day right before lunch. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re landing late, the Tomb of Sheikh Firoz is a good first stop because it’s open 24 hours and you can stroll around the monument without worrying about closing times. After that, heading to the Patna Museum is doable, but it’s a 6 km walk and you might be tired. The Golghar is a quick addition; its view of the city at dusk is nice and it’s only a short walk from the tomb. If you prefer to stay close to your hotel, The Red Velvet Hotel Samarpan is only 0.6 km away, so you could walk back for dinner before heading to Golghar for a brief sunset view.

If you’re planning a quick stop at the museum, note that the local bus from the station to the museum area costs the same as the temple bus, so you can hop straight in without extra fare. A one night stay at Hotel Annapurna keeps you under a kilometre from everything, cutting out most walking and saving on transport. Have you checked the museum’s opening days to time your visit? If you want to beat the heat, try leaving the Tirupati depot right after the 6:00 am bus starts. The route climbs early so the sun is still low when you reach the gate. If you prefer a quicker hop, a cab from the airport drops you at the base in about 35 minutes, letting you skip the bus wait. On the way up, a short pause at a shaded tea stall under the banyan tree gives a nice break before the main walls. Afterward, if you need a place to cool off, the Alexander Luxury Hotel in Anantapur is a convenient stop.
