Should I visit Deer Park first thing in the morning?

Dipankar Bandyopadhyay · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m landing in Bhubaneswar around 5 am and want to hit Deer Park right away. It’s open 24 hours and entry is free, so is it worth starting early to catch the deer or would I be better off waiting until later? Also, is there a quick walk to Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves or any nearby spots worth a visit after the park?

You’ll find the deer most active around sunrise, so getting there right after landing gives you a good chance to see them. After the park, a short walk of about 1.5 km takes you to the Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, which are open from 9 am to 5 pm. The walk passes through a small market where you can grab a quick bite before heading to the caves. If you prefer a quicker stroll, the park’s perimeter trail loops around the lake and ends near a bus stop that takes you straight to the caves.

Since the Deer Park is open 24 hours, getting there right after landing is fine for a quick early morning sighting, but the deer are most active around sunrise. If you want a relaxed stroll, you could head to Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves after the park they open at 9 am and are about a 1.5 kilometre walk away, passing a small market where you can grab a snack. A nearby option is the Kalinga Stadium area, close to Green land Tower Hotel, for a quick coffee before the caves.

If you’re up for a quick stroll, the Deer Park is a 1.5 km walk to Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, so you can see the deer early and then head straight to the caves before they open at 9 am. If you’d rather grab a coffee first, the Green land Tower Hotel is right by the Kalinga Stadium area and has a good spot for a quick break before you hit the caves.

If you’re up for a quick walk, the Deer Park trail leads right into the Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves area after about 1.5 km. The path passes the Kalinga Stadium, where you can grab a coffee at the Green land Tower Hotel before heading to the caves. That gives you a relaxed break and a chance to catch the early morning deer.

You’ll probably catch the deer best right after dawn, so hitting the park at 5 am is worth it. After a quick walk to the caves you could stop at Green land Tower Hotel near Kalinga Stadium for a coffee before the caves open at 9 am. The walk is only about 1.5 km, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore the caves once they open.

If you’re in the park before 9 am you can also walk to the nearby Lingaraj Temple area, which opens at 6 am and offers a quick visit before the caves open. It’s a short 2 km walk from the park.

You could also head to Lingaraj Temple after the park it’s about 2 km away and opens at 6 am, so you can get a quick visit before the caves open. If you need a coffee break, Green land Tower Hotel is just a short walk from the stadium.
