If you’re heading from Kokrajhar station, the taxi drop off is right outside the platform. A private hire will get you to Gossaigaon in about 30 minutes, but shared autos leave every 20 minutes for a cheaper fare. From the Gossaigaon bus stand the minibus or shared auto takes roughly 15 minutes. If you want a more comfortable ride, you can arrange a pickup from Radisson Blu Hotel Guwahati, which is only a short drive away. If you only have a half hour, the fort is the quickest cultural stop. The Lower Manair Dam, while a bit farther, offers a small picnic area beside the reservoir where you can sit and watch the boats great if you want a quick nature break. The Ujwala Park is just a 15 minute walk from the city centre and gives a shaded lawn and a small lake, so it works nicely as a quick green pause before heading back.

If you’re staying near the ghat, the Courtyard Nashik is only a short walk away, so you can hop out around 6:30 am when the water is still cool and crowds are minimal. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at Hyatt Place Bodh Gaya, the 3:45 a.m. bus drops you near the town square, so you can hop on a taxi for the final 20 minutes and beat the crowds that start moving around 4 a.m. The bus is cheaper, but the cab gives you a head start if you want to reach the sanctuary right when the mist clears.

If you’re heading from Shillong to Umiam, stop at Shillong Peak first the old colonial watchtower there gives a quick glimpse of the 19th century military layout. After that, a quick walk to the Shillong War Memorial on NH6 adds a WWII layer. Do you think the watchtower’s view changes much between morning and afternoon?

You could also visit the small nearby shrine of Shantadurga at the foot of the hill just south of Hoysaleswara; it’s a quiet spot that many skip. If you’re staying in Belur, the Sunshine International Boarding & Lodging is only a short auto away from the bus stand, making it easy to return after sunset. A quick dhaba near the temple entrance serves fresh idlis that pair well with the late afternoon tea you’ll enjoy.

Late October to early November is best; the weather is cooler and the crowds thin after the Holi rush. From Mathura Junction you can hop on a local bus to the bus stand, then take an auto or shared taxi that drops you right outside the temple. If you stay at Super Collection O Mathura Near Railway Station, you’re only a half kilometre walk from the shrine, so you can head straight to the temple after breakfast. If you’re aiming for the quietest time, skip the weekend. A Monday morning before 6 am is usually even less crowded than Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The light is soft and you’ll catch the gate in a calm mood. After a short walk, you’ll be close to the Taj Mahal a quick stop at the Taj Mahal, New Delhi hotel is just over a kilometre away if you want to warm up before the day.
