If you’re on Baker Street and need something fast, the Café du Midi right next to the old post office is a solid choice. They serve fresh sandwiches, a quick chai, and their banana fritters are a local hit. A quick stop at the nearby Pappas Bakery for a slice of their signature banana cake is worth it before you head to Promenade Beach. If you’re staying nearby, Hotel Sun Park is only a short walk away and has a small on site café that stays open late.

You might also try the 7:30 am bus from Tirupati Airport to Nellore; the shared auto from the stop is usually less than ₹10. If you want a different feel, Hotel Park Inn Nellore is a bit farther but still within a 15 minute walk and offers a small free breakfast, which can help keep daily costs down.

You could head there around 4 pm. The light is nice, and the crowd is thinner. If you want to stay for the evening pooja, the 5 star Villa Luca By Elixir Cliff is only a kilometre away and offers a quiet place to rest before the sunset rituals. It’s a good spot to catch the evening prayers without rushing.

If you’re staying at the Bloom Hotel, a weekday early in late September works great for a quiet shoot at Hundru. The trail opens at six, the stream is calm, and you’ll have soft morning light before most visitors arrive. Jonha is a bit shorter but still busy even early, so Hundru is usually the better choice for solitude.

If you’re looking for something quick before the bus, the tea stall right beside the main road near the market is a favourite. They serve boiled rice cakes with a strong local tea for only a few rupees. After your trek you might also stop by the bamboo leaf wrap stall at the village square; it’s inexpensive and the pork or fish wraps are a local staple. If you need a place to stay nearby, Hotel Dinthar Zara in Aizawl is only about 35 km away and offers simple rooms at a reasonable rate.

If you’re after a bite of chill, consider staying a bit higher than Kharsali. Prakriti The Retreat in Harsil sits about a thousand feet above Kharsali and Dehradun, so mornings stay misty and afternoons stay mild. It’s a quiet spot that gives a noticeably cooler feel than the plains, and it’s only a short drive from the main towns.

You’ll find the afternoon heat easing after sunset; temperatures usually fall to the low 20s by 8 p.m. If you’re staying at Poojari’s Nirantara, the riverbank is quiet around dusk, so a short evening walk can be a nice break before the night cools. Also, the mist from the river often lingers until 9 a.m., so an early morning launch still feels fresh.

If you start from Mount Retreat around 5:30 am you’ll hit the Alagar Kovil stretch before most of the traffic builds up. After the temple, take the quieter side lane that skirts the main entrance of Pazhamudhircholai. Shoot the carvings from the outer courtyard when the sun is low on the left; the light will highlight the stonework while the crowds stay behind the arch.

If you’re heading out after lunch, the boat traffic does pick up even on a weekday. A 6 or 7 a.m. launch keeps you ahead of most day trippers, and the water is still calm enough to spot the floating phumdis clearly. If you’re staying in Imphal, the AURORA BOUTIQUE HOTEL offers a convenient shuttle to the launch point just before 6 a.m.

From Dibrugarh the quickest way is to take a train or bus to Silchar, which is about 140 km away, then catch the ferry that leaves Silchar port for Port Blair. The ferry runs three times a week and takes roughly 18 to 20 hours. Once in Port Blair you can hop on a speedboat that departs a few times a day to Great Nicobar, taking about an hour. If you need a place to drop luggage before heading back, Sea Shell Havelock is a convenient option a short boat ride away.

If you’re planning a quick visit, the best time is early morning. The trail to the main chamber is only 1.5 km, so you’ll finish before any late afternoon showers that sometimes start around 4 pm. Afterward, a short drive to Wildernest Nature Resort gives you a comfortable spot to rehydrate and rest before heading back.

You could finish the zoo around 12:30 p.m., then head straight to the palace for a quick walk through. If you want a short break, the nearby Hotel Hari Govindas Mysore offers a quick lunch spot right in the city center, so you can recharge before heading to Karanji Lake for a relaxed stroll.

The 6 pm kirtan is the highlight, and the lecture runs until about 8 pm, so leaving around 3:30 pm gives you a full evening. If you want a quieter spot, the pavilion near the main entrance is less crowded than the central hall. A quick coffee at Hotel 16 Avenue before you head out can keep you refreshed and on schedule.

The original bungalow’s roof still shows the old slate tiles shipped from England, a detail you can spot when you climb the stone steps. Nearby, a small plaque by the Putudi trail explains the British plan to set up tea and coffee terraces and how the Khandi people helped plant the first rows. If you’re staying close to the hill, the Mayfair Palm Beach Resort Gopalpur offers easy access to both the museum and the waterfall trail.
