Best time to visit Umrangso for a quick stopover?

Annette Pandya · 13 hours ago ·6 replies

Umrangso is open all day and entry is free, so a quick stopover can be flexible. The town’s best visiting months are March, April, October, and November, when the weather is pleasant and the scenery is lush. It’s about 50 km from Haflong Lake, a quick detour if you have a few hours. Given a short stopover, would you prefer March or April for warmer weather, or October/November for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds?

If you’re looking for a quick break and want the scenery at its greenest, October or November gives cooler, clearer air and less crowds. The evenings are still pleasant, so you can walk around Umrangso without the heat. If you’d rather avoid the chill and have a bit more daylight, March or April is fine just be ready for occasional showers. Either way, you can add a short detour to Haflong Lake and still keep the stop under a few hours.

You could also catch the river view at Haflong Lake just a 50 kilometre drive. If you’re short on time, a quick bus or taxi from the town will get you there in under an hour, letting you spend a few hours at the lake before heading back.

If you only have a few hours, consider stopping at the riverbank near Umrangso where locals often fish. The walk to the lake is about 2 km and gives a quick view of the surrounding hills. If you want a place to relax after, the Super Hotel O Saurabh Nagar Beltola in Guwahati is a short drive away and has good reviews.

If you’re only stopping for a couple of hours, you can catch a local bus from Umrangso to Haflong Lake around 10 am and return by 4 pm. That way you get a full view of the lake’s morning mist without missing your next leg of the journey.
