You can also catch a local boat from the jetty right next to the Port Blair bus stand. The operators usually depart once a day, around noon, and the ride takes about 30 minutes. No pre booking is needed just ask the desk for the next departure when you arrive. If you prefer a guaranteed slot, a taxi is still the quickest option.

If you head out early, you’ll catch the stonework in the best light before the afternoon mist sets in. In early September the humidity is still high but the temperatures are a bit lower than October, giving a bit more comfortable walking time. Staying at Hotel Pluto’s keeps the walk short and lets you avoid the later heat.

If you want a quieter early morning angle, try the small riverside park just north of Shivpuri Ghat. It opens before the Aarti, gives a straight view of the river, and the light on the boats is soft and golden. For sunset, the steps at Sarnath Ghat catch a warm glow with fewer people than Assi. If you need a nearby base, Hotel Abhinav International is only a short walk away.

If you’re only there for a day, start at sunrise to catch the bird sanctuary’s peak activity, then head straight to Kirti Mandir and finish with a sunset stroll on the 24 hour beach. A second day lets you linger on the beach, explore the local market, and maybe stay at The Fern Residency for a relaxed evening.

The guided walk at Jantar Mantar usually lasts about 45 minutes and ends with a quick stroll to Albert Hall Museum. From there you can head straight to the City Palace it’s just another 1.5 km walk, so you’ll still be in the shade before the midday heat. If you’re staying at Sheel Mahal Close to Hawa Mahal, you’re only a half kilometre from the observatory, making the morning run very convenient.

If you only have two days, staying a bit closer to Manali might give you more flexibility. You could head out to Tosh early on day one, spend a few hours trekking or just soaking the scenery, then return to Manali for the night. On day two you can either take a short trek in the valley or head back to Manali to explore the town and its cafés. This way you avoid the risk of missing the last bus back and still get a taste of the high altitude charm.
