A quick walk from Ranga Mandira to Lalbagh Botanical Garden takes about 15 minutes on foot, so you could squeeze a short stroll through the gardens if you have time. The park opens at 8 am and stays open until 6 pm, and the paths are usually less crowded on weekdays. If you want a quick coffee break nearby, the JW Marriott Hotel Bengaluru is only a 5 minute drive away and has a nice café.

The plantations usually open around 7 am and close around 5 pm. In October the mornings are noticeably lighter, with fewer vehicles on the winding roads. By mid afternoon the traffic starts to build, especially on weekends, so if you’re short on time a 9 10 am walk will let you enjoy the spice rows before the crowds arrive. If you’re staying near the town you might consider staying at Machaan Plantation Resort Sakleshpur to be close to the trailheads.

If you can get a cab a little earlier than 4 am, you’ll likely find a spot in the main parking lot before it fills up. That gives you a short walk to the lake, then a quick 10 minute walk to the Chaurasi Temple, and you’ll be ready to hit the Gauri Kund trail without backtracking. After the trek, you can head straight to Shree Guest House for a relaxed evening.

Bishnupur Museum is open daily except Monday, so try a Tuesday or Wednesday. From the temple complex you can walk to Jor Bangla in about 15 minutes, then head back to the museum on foot. If you stay overnight at Hotel Annapurna you’ll be under a kilometre from all three spots, saving a few rupees on daily transport and giving you extra time to soak in the terracotta carvings.

If you can grab a lightweight tripod, try shooting from the small rock platform just before the loop trail. It gives a 60 degree angle that captures the full 750 foot descent and lets you frame the mist against the green canopy. A quick stop at a local tea stall for a cool drink can keep you refreshed before you head back out.

You can start at Peer Kho, then head to Raghunath Temple and finish at Bahu Fort. A quick 5 km drive to the temple, then a 6 km stretch to the fort keeps you under an hour. If you need to drop luggage, KC Residency is only 0.7 km from the start.

If you’re okay with a short drive, staying at Casa Woods Resort @ Araku gives you a cheap base and still lets you hit Deomali as a day trip. The resort’s rooms are modestly priced, and the local bus to the trailhead runs hourly, so you can leave after breakfast, summit before dusk, and return without extra overnight cost. This keeps both lodging and transport low while still enjoying the coffee farms and waterfalls nearby.

If you’re staying at Megapode Resort, try the tiny ledge on the ridge’s eastern side. It’s a short climb from the main trail, but the sea breaks into a thin ribbon just before it meets the green slope. Early sunrise around 6 am gives a sharp contrast and a subtle rim around the cliffs that many overlook.

If you’re staying at Hotel Centre Point you can walk to the Tulip Garden in about ten minutes, then hop on a Shikara for a 20 minute glide across Dal Lake. The garden’s free entry means you can spend a short time strolling among the 1.5 million tulips, and the lake ride gives the kids a gentle splash of local life without cutting into your schedule.

From the bus stand you can take the Kedarnath Khatling road eastwards. It’s a single lane track and you’ll hit the Vasuki Tal viewpoint about 15 km in before the lake. If you’re short on time, a quick detour to the Kedarnath Temple is only a few hundred metres from the bus stand, then head back toward Chorabari. After the trek you could stay at Himalayan Comforts in Rudraprayag, just over 20 km away. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you only have a quick window, head straight to the main tunnel and pause at the small platform that overlooks the Bay of Kakinada. The rock cut arches give a nice close up of the carvings, and from the platform you get a panoramic shot of the sea that many reviewers praise. After that, the 15 minute bus hop to Simhachalam Temple is easy to fit in. If you need a quick break, Treebo Grand Milan is only a three kilometre walk from the temple.

If you’re looking for a place that’s a little further out but still under a kilometer, Lakeside Inn is about 0.96 km from the barrage. It offers family rooms and a kids’ play corner, plus a small outdoor playground that keeps the little ones busy while you enjoy the picnic spot. The breakfast menu includes a section with child friendly options. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

Sela Pass sits at about 4,170 m and the road is still used by the army today, so you’ll see modern supply depots in addition to the old 1962 camps. If you’re looking for a place to rest after the climb, Awoo Resort in Bomdila is a convenient option. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re okay with a bit more distance, Rufina Pinasa Residency is about a kilometre from the shrine and has an 8.6 rating. The rooms are larger than Udaan’s and the quieter courtyard can be nice for winding down after a long day of visits.

If you’re leaving from Udupi, catching the early 22A state bus keeps costs low and you can hop off right outside the village. The guide at the main gate often offers a free 10 minute walk through the old fort walls and points out lesser known Vijayanagara carvings. After that, a quick cup of coffee at the small shop near the entrance is inexpensive and gives a taste of local flavor before you head back. Do you prefer a guided walk or exploring the ruins on your own?
