Deomali Hill or Araku Valley – which is better for a budget trek?

Indrani Swaminathan · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

For a budget trek, I’m weighing Deomali Hill against Araku Valley. Deomali is Andhra Pradesh’s highest peak at 1672 m, open 24 hours and free to enter. Araku Valley is only about 60 km away and known for coffee plantations and waterfalls. Which spot offers more value for a cheap budget traveller? And are there affordable stays near Deomali?

If you’re looking for a cheap overnight stay near Deomali, the nearest budget options are actually in Araku Valley. A place like Vana Resort is about 12 km away and has basic rooms that fit a tight budget. From there you can hike up to Deomali early in the morning and return before dark, keeping transport costs low. If you prefer staying right in the valley, the Casa Woods Resort @ Araku Valley offers a few rooms at a reasonable price and is close to the coffee plantations, so you get both scenery and a cheap base.

If you’re okay with a short drive, staying at Casa Woods Resort @ Araku Valley gives you easy access to the coffee farms and a few waterfall spots, plus you can still make a day trek to Deomali without extra overnight cost. The resort’s rooms are on the cheaper side for a three star place, and you’ll be close enough to catch the early sunrise on the hill.

If you’re looking to stretch a tight budget and still hit the peak, staying at USHODAYA RESORTS in Araku gives you a decent base and only about a 12 km drive to Deomali. You can leave early, climb the 1,672 foot summit, and return before dark, keeping transport costs low. The resort’s rooms are three star and priced modestly, so you get a comfortable night without breaking the bank. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at USHODAYA RESORTS you can hop on a local bus to the Deomali trailhead right after breakfast; the bus runs roughly every hour and costs only a few rupees. The trail itself is a straightforward climb with a few rest spots along the way, so you can hit the summit and return before dusk without extra transport. This keeps the whole day cheap while still giving you a full peak experience.

You could also stay at Vana Resort in Araku it’s a four star option a bit pricier than the three star stays but still reasonable, and the drive to Deomali is just over 12 km. That gives you a comfortable base if you plan a longer trek or want a quieter night after the summit. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.
