If you’re looking for a quick stop, consider renting a bike or scooter to loop around Dal Lake’s outskirts; the market stalls open early and you’ll see the boats in motion before the crowds. For a longer day, you could leave early, hit the cableway in the morning, then drop off luggage at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa before heading back so you get both the lake and the hills in one outing.
