Which nearby spot from Kongdori is best for a solo trip?

Jatin Shukla · 3 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m staying near Kongdori and I’m trying to decide which nearby attraction to hit first. Dal Lake is just 15 km away, while Gulmarg is 50 km out. Should I head to the lake for a quick day or plan a longer trip to the hills? What do you recommend for someone exploring alone?

Dal Lake is great if you want a quick, scenic drive and a relaxed paddle. If you have a full day, heading to Gulmarg lets you explore the meadows and maybe try a cable way ride. The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa is a solid base if you decide to stay overnight in the hills. Either way, the drive from Kongdori takes about 30 minutes to the lake and roughly an hour to Gulmarg, so you can fit both if you’re up for it.

If you only have a half day, Dal Lake’s paddle boat rides and the floating market give you a quick taste of Srinagar’s charm. For a longer solo trek, head to Gulmarg early the drive is about an hour, and you can spend the whole day hiking the meadows or riding the cableway. A good base there is the Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, which is right on the main road and has easy access to the slopes.

If you’re up for a longer day and want to see the slopes, the drive to Gulmarg takes about an hour and you can spend the afternoon hiking or taking the cableway. The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa sits right on the main road, so you have a comfortable spot to rest if you decide to stay the night. If you only have a few hours, Dal Lake’s paddle boat rides and floating market give you a quick taste of Srinagar.

Since you’re already in Kongdori, a quick stop at Dal Lake lets you see the floating market and maybe rent a paddle boat before heading out. If you’re up for a longer day, Gulmarg’s meadows are a bit further but you can still finish the day at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, which sits right on the main road and gives easy access to the slopes. That way you get a taste of both lake and hill scenery in one outing. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re willing to stretch the day a bit, consider staying at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa for a few hours in Gulmarg. It’s right on the main road, so you can drop off your luggage, hit the cableway, and then head back to Kongdori without a long detour. This gives you a taste of both the lake’s calm and the hills’ altitude in one outing.

If you’re only after a quick splash of Srinagar life, a half day at Dal Lake gives you the floating market and a paddle boat ride. For a longer solo adventure, head to Gulmarg early the drive is about an hour and you can spend the rest of the day hiking or catching the cableway. If you want a comfortable spot to drop off luggage, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa is right on the main road.

If you’re looking for a quick stop, consider renting a bike or scooter to loop around Dal Lake’s outskirts; the market stalls open early and you’ll see the boats in motion before the crowds. For a longer day, you could leave early, hit the cableway in the morning, then drop off luggage at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa before heading back so you get both the lake and the hills in one outing.

You could drop by the Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa to stash your bags before heading up the cableway its location right on the main road makes it easy to hop on and off. If you’re only after a quick lake splash, the floating market opens early, so you might catch the boats before the crowds. If you have a full day, consider leaving at dawn to beat the traffic to Gulmarg and get a good view of the meadows before the afternoon sun. What time do you plan to start?

If you’re looking for a quick taste of Srinagar life, try catching the sunrise over Dal Lake early in the morning the light on the water is gorgeous and the market stalls are just starting to open. If you have a full day, you could drop off luggage at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg, hop on the cableway for a panoramic view, then head back to Kongdori with a few hours of hill scenery. If you’re only looking for a quick splash, a half day at Dal Lake is enough to see the floating market and maybe rent a paddle boat. But if you have a full day, head to Gulmarg early, drop your bags at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, hop on the cableway, and spend the afternoon hiking the meadows before heading back. This way you get both lake calm and hill altitude in one outing.

You might want to park at the Dal Lake jetty; there’s a small tea stall right by the promenade that’s a good spot to grab a quick snack before you head back to Kongdori.

Since you’re already near Kongdori, you could drop your bags at The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg before heading up the cableway. That way you can hit the meadows in the afternoon and still have a place to rest if you decide to stay a few hours. It’s a convenient spot right on the main road.
