If you’re after a quieter tripod spot at sunrise, try the small riverside park just north of Dashashwamedh Ghat but further east near the Ganga Aarti area. It gives a straight view of the river and the early light on the boats, and the crowd is usually light before 5:30 am. After a long day you can head back to the hotel for a quick break.

If you want a quick taste of the valley without an overnight drive, you could stay in Manali and take a taxi early to Tosh. The flat two hour road keeps the kids comfortable and you’ll still get a full morning to walk the 2 km loop and grab a ginger chai. After that you can head back to Manali for dinner and rest.

The Hola Mohalla dates shift with the lunar calendar, so it’s best to check the exact week in early March. If you stay near the gurdwaras, Hotel Sarai Bharatgarh in Rupnagar is only about 11 km away and offers free parking for pilgrims. If you prefer a quieter base in Chandigarh, you can take the early morning train to Rupnagar each day, but you’ll be back in the city by evening. Does anyone know if the 2026 schedule has been announced yet?

If you’re aiming for a quick panoramic snap, heading up around 7:30 pm gives you a clear view before the lights start at 9 pm. After the show, you can stroll a few minutes to Sukhdev Park it’s right next to the tower and has a few local snack stalls. If you’re staying at the Clubhouse Hotel Chandigarh Mohali, the walk is only about ten minutes.

If you only have a bit more than 30 minutes, Elgandal Fort still feels like a quick cultural dip, but you’ll get a clearer view of the 16th century masonry from the top. Lower Manair Dam offers a short walk around the reservoir, a small picnic area and a few boats that give a quick scenic break. Ujwala Park’s shaded lawns are a nice 15 minute pause before you head back. If you need a place to grab a quick bite after the park, the Lemon Tree Premier Vijayawada is a convenient option. You might also check the entry fee for Hill Palace Museum it’s just a few rupees. If you’re staying near Thattakad, Maram Resort Mamalakandam offers basic rooms at a reasonable rate. Do you need tips on the best time to visit the dam?

The temple also has a small stall that sells fresh fruit juices and light snacks, which can be handy for little ones. If you’re staying in Nandyal, Hotel DR Indraaprasthaa is only a short drive away and its kids’ menu can help keep the kids satisfied after the visit.

One notable event was the 1925 coronation banquet for the ruler’s son, which drew dignitaries from all princely states and was documented in the palace archives. Architecturally, the palace features a distinctive double storey verandah with carved teak railings that echo the Gujarati courtyard style, while the central pavilion’s clock tower was imported from England in the 1930s. If you’re staying at Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot, the staff can arrange a guided walk that covers both the banquet hall and the clock tower.

A good tip is to park just outside the town square; the temple has a small public parking lot that fills up early on equinox days. If you’re staying at Modhera Sunrise Resort, you can walk a few minutes to the temple and still beat the crowds. The resort’s reception can also give you the exact sunrise time for that day.

September is still a good time the forest is greener after the rains and the waterfall runs nicely. If you plan to hit both Robber’s Cave and Sahastradhara in the same day, you’ll need to start early because each drive takes roughly 45 50 minutes. Staying at Vishnu Lok near the railway station keeps you close to the city centre and gives you quick access to the roads heading into the hills.

If you’re aiming for a truly calm dip, try a slot right after sunrise, around 6:30 7:30 am, when the water is still cool and the crowds are minimal. Staying at Courtyard Nashik puts you a short walk from the ghat, so you can head out early and return before the day heats up.
