Best time and family suitability for Lacchiwala Picnic Spot near Dehradun

Paramjit Adiga · 1 month ago ·22 replies

I’ve heard Lacchiwala is a quiet spot with lush green forests and a small waterfall, which sounds great for a family day out. Since there’s no entry fee and it’s open all day, we’re thinking of going in September, but I’m not sure if that’s the best month. Also, can we easily combine a visit to Robber’s Cave or Sahastradhara from the same trip?

September is still warm enough to enjoy the forest walk and the waterfall at Lacchiwala, and the trails are usually dry after the monsoon. If you want to add Robber’s Cave or Sahastradhara to the same day, you’ll need to leave early because the drive from Dehradun to each spot takes about 40 to 50 minutes. A convenient base would be Vishnu Lok near Dehradun Railway Station, which is only a short walk from the city centre and offers easy access to the roads leading out to the hills.

September is still a good time the forest is greener after the rains and the waterfall runs nicely. If you plan to hit both Robber’s Cave and Sahastradhara in the same day, you’ll need to start early because each drive takes roughly 45 50 minutes. Staying at Vishnu Lok near the railway station keeps you close to the city centre and gives you quick access to the roads heading into the hills.

September is fine the forest stays green and the waterfall still flows after the monsoon. The drive from Lacchiwala to Robber’s Cave is about 40 minutes, and from there to Sahastradhara another 30. If you hit all three in one day you’ll want to start before 7 am. Staying at Vishnu Lok near the railway station keeps the city centre within a short walk and gives easy access to the roads heading into the hills.

If you’re aiming to hit all three spots in one day, remember that from Lacchiwala to Sahastradhara it’s about a 30 minute drive, so the schedule tightens a bit. Staying at Vishnu Lok near the railway station keeps the city centre close and gives you quick access to the roads heading up the hills. That way you can start early, beat the heat, and still enjoy the waterfall and the caves.

You could also consider staying a bit further out, like at the Super Collection O Kanwali Road Near Railway Station. That spot is a short drive from the hill roads and gives you a quieter base if you want to avoid the busier areas around Dehradun city centre. It keeps the same travel times to Lacchiwala, Robber’s Cave and Sahastradhara, so you can still hit all three in one day.

September is still a good time the forest remains green, the waterfall keeps a decent flow, and daytime temperatures are milder than July or August. If you want to hit all three spots in one day, try leaving by 6:30 am to beat the midday heat and give yourself plenty of daylight for the walk at Lacchiwala, the cave tour, and the cool air at Sahastradhara. Staying at Vishnu Lok near the railway station keeps the drive times short and the city centre within easy reach. Have you thought about the best time to start to avoid traffic on the hill roads?

A quick way to hit all three spots is to stay at Vishnu Lok near Dehradun Railway Station. From there you can reach Lacchiwala in about 30 minutes, Robber’s Cave in another 40, and Sahastradhara in roughly 30. That keeps the whole day under eight hours, so you’ll still have time to enjoy the waterfall before sunset.

Sahastradhara is a bit cooler than Lacchiwala, so if you’re driving from the waterfall to the caves, you’ll get a nice temperature break before heading back into the hills. That can make the whole day feel less tiring, especially for kids.
