How long should a weekend trip to Gandhi Beach in Puducherry last?

Trupti Bhatnagar · 6 days ago ·13 replies

For a quick weekend in Puducherry I’m looking at Gandhi Beach as the base. The beach has golden sands, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and colonial architecture along the promenade, and it’s open all day. How many days would let me relax there and still visit nearby spots like Promenade Beach or Aurobindo Ashram? Also, is it easier to get around by cab from the airport or railway station, or should I plan a day trip to Paradise Beach instead?

Aurobindo Ashram is only about three kilometres from Gandhi Beach, so you can walk or hop on a short taxi ride. If you want a full day at Paradise Beach, it’s roughly 12 kilometres away; a cab from the airport takes about 30 minutes, so it’s easier to book a ride from the station or use a local taxi service. Staying at The Sunway Manor keeps you within a kilometre of the promenade and gives you quick access to both spots.

A two day stay works well you can spend the first day unwinding on Gandhi Beach and walking to Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram. On the second day you could take a short taxi to Paradise Beach; it’s about 12 km away and takes roughly 30 minutes from the airport. If you’re staying near the promenade, The Sunway Manor puts you within a kilometre of all the spots you want to visit. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could spend one full day just at Gandhi Beach and then walk to Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram the next morning it’s only about three kilometres. If you want a quick trip to Paradise Beach, a cab from the airport takes roughly 30 minutes, so you can squeeze that into a third day. Staying at The Sunway Manor keeps you within a kilometre of the promenade and gives easy access to all those spots.

If you’re staying at The Sunway Manor you’re already a 10 minute walk from the promenade, so you could spend the first day just relaxing on Gandhi Beach, then stroll to Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram the next morning. A quick cab hop from the airport to Paradise Beach takes about 30 minutes, so you could squeeze that into a third day if you want a longer break.

If you stay at The Sunway Manor you’re already a short walk from Gandhi Beach, so you can spend a full morning there, then stroll to Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram the same day. A quick cab from the airport takes about 30 minutes to Paradise Beach, so you could fit that into a second day without needing a separate trip.

You could also hop on a local bus from the airport that stops right at the promenade; it’s a cheaper option than a cab and takes about the same time. That way you can save a bit for a later day trip to Paradise Beach if you decide to extend your stay.

If you’re staying at Iyla Apart Hotel Pondicherry you’re only about a kilometre from the promenade, so you can stroll to Gandhi Beach, Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram in a single day. A quick cab from the airport to Paradise Beach takes roughly 30 minutes, so you could slot that into a second day if you want a longer break. A single day can cover Gandhi Beach, Promenade Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram if you start early, since the Ashram is only a three kilometre walk from the beach. If you want a relaxed second day, staying at The Sunway Manor keeps you within a kilometre of the promenade, so you can hop in a cab to Paradise Beach in about 30 minutes from the airport without a separate day trip.

If you’re staying near the promenade, you can walk to both Gandhi Beach and the Aurobindo Ashram in a single day. A local bus from the airport stops right at the promenade and takes about the same time as a cab, saving a few rupees. From there you can hop on a short taxi to Paradise Beach the next day if you want a quick beach change.
