If you’re keen on a full weekend, stay at Raga On the Ganges. The riverfront rooms give instant access to morning rafting or yoga, and a quick 20 minute drive takes you to Devprayag for a quiet sunset at the confluence. The hotel’s location also keeps the lively ashram scene within easy reach.

The ranger station has a small visitor centre that displays a timeline of the 1984 split from the larger Mayurbhanj Reserve. After 4 pm they usually allow a short walk until about 8 pm. The centre also has a tea stall and basic restrooms for late arrivals. If you’re thinking of a quick stop at Chandipur, you might want to grab a snack at the beach café before heading back to the sanctuary. Does anyone know if the beach has any guided sunset tours?

If you’re staying at Humming Bird By Aaryam you can leave around 6 am, hit Deoria Tal for a quick sunrise view, then drive 15 minutes to Chopta for a short pine forest walk. The round trip takes about four hours, so you’ll still have time to return for the temple’s 24 hour opening. Does that schedule fit your travel plans?

If you’re looking for a more hands on feel, the village lets you sit with an artist and watch a painting evolve in real time. The museum, on the other hand, offers a guided audio tour that explains the symbolism behind each motif. Since the 2 km hop is easy by auto or shared taxi, you can fit both into one day. Do you prefer to start with the village and then head to the museum, or the reverse?

You could also try the millet pancakes wrapped in paper that a stall near the main market sells. They’re usually hot and come with a fresh green chutney a quick, tasty snack for hikers.

If you’re staying near Kohima, the Niraamaya Retreats Aradura is only a couple of kilometres from the route to Kisama and has a dedicated parking area that can hold camera gear securely. From Dimapur Airport the taxi stand is well marked; just ask the driver to keep your bag in the back seat to avoid bumps on the 30 minute ride. This way you can set up before the night carnival without worrying about your equipment.

A quick walk from the Baradari to the Qutb Shahi Tombs takes you past the old Charminar area. After the tombs you could head to the nearby Chowmahalla Palace for a taste of royal décor before a cab to Golconda. If the group stays near Dash Hotels, a short cab from the Tombs saves the steep climb at the fort.

You might want to hit Sepahijala right after the fort, because the forest is cooler in the early morning and you’ll avoid the midday heat. A local cab can drop you at the main gate and then take you straight to Neermahal, keeping the whole loop tight.

If you’re staying near the city centre, you can also hop on the city bus that stops right outside Hotel Le Roi Jammu. Route 3 or 5 will drop you near Bahu Fort and Raghunath Temple in about ten minutes. The buses run every fifteen minutes, so you can easily switch from a taxi at the airport or railway station to a bus without long waits.

If you’re staying at Royal Pamposh Hotel you’re only a kilometre from the hill. The main road usually clears by 5 pm, so you’ll see fewer people then. The temple stays open 24 hours, but the light after 7 pm is softer and the evening crowd is lighter, making it a quieter time to soak in the view.

You might try the quiet stone terrace just outside the main temple complex in Saklecha; it’s a short walk from the waterfall trail and offers a calm spot for a 20 minute sit meditation before heading to the park.

If you’re only stopping for a quick walk, a 15 minute loop from the main gate is the most straightforward. It takes you past the tallest bamboo stalks and the meditation alcove, which opens at 6 am. The path is well marked so you won’t need a guide. Afterward you can head to Hotel Delta International, just a short walk away, for a quick tea before you hit the road.

You could book a prepaid taxi from the Mysore bus station for a straight NH 275 drive that usually takes about 90 minutes. Once you arrive, head straight to the main courtyard the Dalai Lama statue and prayer flag wall give you a quick visual overview. If you have a little extra time, stop by the small museum on the left side of the complex to see a few thangka paintings before heading back.

October usually brings a few light showers around Vani Vilas Sagar, so you might see a brief mist over the water, whereas November tends to be drier and a bit sunnier.

If you’re aiming to hit both spots, start at the floating market, head straight to Keibul Lamjao first. The park opens at 10 a.m. and stays until 5 p.m., so you can spend a couple of hours there before the afternoon heat. From the park it’s only a 20 minute drive to Kangla Fort, where you can wander at a relaxed pace and finish by late afternoon. A good rest spot afterward is the AURORA BOUTIQUE HOTEL.
