You could head to Kabbalamma right away it’s open all night and free, so you’ll get a quick pooja and then a short walk to Lalbagh. The garden usually closes around 6 pm, so you’d finish just before that. If you want a place to stay nearby, the Vivanta Bengaluru on Residency Road is only a few minutes away and has good reviews.

You might want to head to the ridge that runs north of the beach near the beachside promenade. From there you get a sweeping view of Mount Harriet’s silhouette as the sun dips. The trail that loops around the park’s lower slopes offers a good angle for bird shots, especially near the mangrove patches where the kingfishers like to perch. If you’re staying near Visakhapatnam, the Super Hotel O Suryabagh Near Jagadamba Theater is a convenient base. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

You could also try the north east corner of the courtyard a few minutes before sunrise. The sun will rise just over the dome, casting a gentle back light on the carved panels while the courtyard stays empty. From that spot you can get a clean view of the gold leaf without the glare that appears later, and the angle gives a nice depth with the stone pillars in front. If you’re staying at the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot, the walk from the parking to that corner takes about five minutes.

If you’re heading out around 8:30 a.m., the visitor centre’s parking lot is usually empty, and you can request a short tea tasting before the main group arrives.

If you can pause for a minute, stand at the outer arch on the right side and tilt the lens slightly up. This captures the upper lintels and the shaft of light rising from the bottom in the same frame. A quick step onto the first stone of the staircase will give you a clear view of the first corridor, showing the vertical span without losing the carved panels. If you need a quick break after shooting, The Grand Raveta is just a few kilometres away.

You could also try the local “night market” near Kankaria Lake; the stalls sell inexpensive snacks and you can grab a quick bite before heading back. If you need a place to stay, Sayaji Rajkot offers decent rooms and is only about 44 km from the temple, so you can return to the temple area early next morning.

If you’re staying near the fort, a good spot after sunset is the main gate where the lamps light up and you can see the city lights spread out. It’s a quiet place to sit and watch the sky. Does anyone know if there’s a nearby cafe open that late?

If you’re okay with a bit cooler air, late November into early December gives you the calm sea and light, low cost nights at places like Canara Vibes. The weather stays mild, the beach isn’t packed, and you can catch sunset walks without the mid summer heat. Just keep an eye on local bus schedules; the 5 pm service from Bhatkal to Shirali runs every day, so you can plan a quick return if you need to.

If you head to Sanjan Bagh first, you can catch the early morning light and beat the crowds. After that, a quick drive to Sanchi gives you the stupas before lunch, and you’ll still have time to snap photos of the Bhimbetka rock shelters in the late afternoon. A convenient stop for a break is Hotel Morya Meghdoot, just a few minutes from the city centre.

If you’re staying at Niraamaya Retreats Aradura Kohima, you can leave your camera bag in the resort’s dedicated parking area and lock it with a small padlock. The driver can then keep the bag in the back seat and secure it with a seat belt strap during the 30 minute ride from Dimapur Airport. This way you’re ready to shoot the dances and the night carnival without worrying about gear shifting.

If you’re not in a rush, you could take the city bus from the airport to Chennai Central and then hop on a local bus heading to Mahabalipuram. Those buses start running around 16:30 and you’d arrive in roughly an hour and a half. The last train from Chennai to Chengalpattu leaves at about 18:30, so after 4 pm a cab is still the most reliable way to reach the Five Rathas without waiting.

You might also consider heading out just after sunrise, around 6:30 am. The temple is usually clear before the first groups arrive, and you’ll catch the morning light on the walls before the evening rush starts. This slot works well on any weekday, especially if you’re staying at the Jai Mahal Palace.

If you’re okay with a quick drive, the park’s visitor centre opens at 10 a.m. so you could hit it first, spend about two hours, then head to Kangla Fort which is only a 20 minute drive away. The fort’s walls are easier to wander alone, and you could finish there by late afternoon. Afterward, a short drive back to Imphal lets you unwind at a place like the AURORA BOUTIQUE HOTEL.

You might also want to grab a quick bite at the small café near the museum; they serve local tea and a few light snacks that are a nice break before heading back to Thangliana Lung. If you’re looking for a place to stay close to everything, the Emerald Hotel is only a short walk from the monument.
