How to spend a short stopover at Hanumanji Temple on a budget?

Vishnu Bora · 2 weeks ago ·17 replies

I’m planning a quick stop in Gujarat and want to visit the Hanumanji Temple. The temple is open 24 hours and entry is free, so I can drop by anytime. I also want to see nearby spots like Sabarmati Ashram (5 km away) and Kankaria Lake (10 km away) without breaking the bank. Any tips on the best budget route to cover these spots in a short time?

If you’re staying near the city centre you can hop on a city bus that runs every 15 20 minutes. Take route 12 from the bus stop opposite the Hanumanji Temple, get off at the Sabarmati Ashram stop, then switch to route 7 to reach Kankaria Lake. The buses are cheap, run all day and the travel time between the two sites is under 30 minutes. If you’d rather stay close to the temple, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a budget option a few kilometres away and has good reviews.

You could also take a shared auto from the temple to Sabarmati Ashram it’s a short 5 km hop and usually costs under ₹50. From the Ashram you can catch a local bus that stops right by Kankaria Lake, so you avoid a separate taxi. If you want a place to stay nearby, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a budget option a few kilometres out. TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re only planning a quick loop, you could walk from the Hanumanji Temple to Sabarmati Ashram in about fifteen minutes. From the Ashram, a short auto rickshaw hop gets you to Kankaria Lake. The lake’s entry is free, so you can stroll around the lake’s perimeter and grab a snack from the stalls without extra cost. If you need a place to stay nearby, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a budget option a few kilometres away.

If you’re aiming to squeeze in the lake after the ashram, the best way is to catch the local bus that stops right by Kankaria Lake from the ashram. The bus runs every 20 30 minutes and the ride takes about 15 minutes. Since the lake entrance is free, you can walk the perimeter and grab a snack from the stalls without spending extra. If you need a place to stay close to the temple, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a budget option a few kilometres away.

You could also try the local “night market” near Kankaria Lake; the stalls sell inexpensive snacks and you can grab a quick bite before heading back. If you need a place to stay, Sayaji Rajkot offers decent rooms and is only about 44 km from the temple, so you can return to the temple area early next morning.

If you’re aiming for a tight loop, try heading to Sabarmati Ashram right after sunrise when the crowd is light. From there, catch a 7 bus that stops directly at Kankaria Lake; the ride takes about 12 minutes and you can hop off to walk the perimeter. The lake’s stalls open around 9 am, so you’ll snag fresh snacks before the crowds grow. After the lake, you could stay at Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot for a comfortable, budget stay.

If you’re only there for a couple of hours, try going after the morning rush. The 7 bus from Sabarmati Ashram to Kankaria Lake leaves every 20 minutes and the lake stalls open at 9 am, so you’ll catch fresh snacks before the crowds grow. After the lake, the Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot is a cheap, well rated option a few kilometres away.

If you’re heading out early, the 12 bus departs from the stop right opposite the temple around 6 am, so you can beat the midday traffic to the ashram. From there, the 7 bus drops you off at the lake’s main gate no extra fare. After a quick stroll around Kankaria, you could drop back to the temple area and stay at Lemon Tree Hotel Rajkot if you need a nearby budget bed.
