A quick drive on NH6 from Shillong to Umiam Lake is the most convenient. Stop at the Shillong War Memorial first for a WWII touch, then head to the old colonial watchtower at Shillong Peak for a 19th century military view. After the lake, a short detour to Dholai Village gives a glimpse of traditional Khasi architecture. If you need a base in Shillong, Living Roof is close to the highway.
