A quick stop at the small park beside the Prakasam Barrage gives a nice break before heading to the caves. After the Undavalli Caves, you could head straight to Gandhi Hill for the panoramic view and then finish back at the museum. If you need a quick coffee, the Capital O Siddartha Grand is only 300 metres from the museum entrance.

If you can get there around 9:30 am you’ll have a few minutes to walk into the 10 am guided tour before it starts, giving you a quick taste of the stands and the pitch. After the match a short drive takes you to the Gurugram Heritage Museum, and on the way back you can stop at goSTOPS Gurugram for a quick coffee.

Since the City Palace opens at 9 a.m. as well, you can line up the Jantar Mantar guided walk and then walk straight into the palace right when the gates open, avoiding the midday heat and giving you a full morning of free and paid sights.

The power plant’s visitor centre actually offers a short guided walk around the turbine hall that takes about 30 minutes. If you’re looking for a quick bite, the village market is a 10 minute drive away and they usually have fresh mangoes and local pappadam on sale.

If you’re after a wide depth of field, head to Kempty Falls the valley opens up so you can frame the cascade with the surrounding hills and get a good foreground. From Gun Hill, the higher angle gives a sweeping composition, but the light is softer in the early morning. For sharp shadows and crisp edges, a late afternoon shot works best. If you’re staying near the falls, Hotel Vishnu Palace is just a short walk away.

Agatti’s pier has a small café that stays open until about 10 pm, so you can grab a quick bite after the sunset. On Soochirac you could do a 30 minute snorkel at the northern reef before dark, which gives a quick glimpse of the coral without waiting for the pier to open. This way you get both a sunset view and a taste of the underwater world in the same evening.

If you’re heading to the Glasshouse on a Thursday, the film screening ends around 7 pm so you still have time to stroll to the Golden Temple before the evening crowd. After the temple’s glow you could walk past the fort and museum, then head to Best Western Kapurthala for a quick rest. That way you hit both a cultural bite and the historic sights without rushing.

You might also try the riverside park near Shivpuri Ghat for sunrise. It opens early, gives a straight view of the Ganges and usually has fewer people before 5:30 am. For sunset, the steps at Sarnath Ghat catch a warm glow with fewer crowds than Assi. This could give your family a quieter tripod spot.

If you want to keep the drive mostly downhill after the high altitude pass, head north from Rangdum into Suru Valley first, then turn north west toward Zanskar and finish by heading south into Kargil. That way you avoid back tracking over the same stretch and you get the best views on the descent. After the memorial you could stay at Hotel The Haven Kargil for a comfortable break.

If you’re staying near Dehradun and want to avoid a long night’s wait, try catching the 5 pm local bus to Rudraprayag the night before. It arrives around 8 pm, so you can hop on a short auto to Bright End Corner and be ready for the 6 am sunrise. A convenient overnight spot is Himalayan Comforts in Rudraprayag, just over 21 km from the viewpoint. Does that fit your timing? TravelIndiaDeals may earn a commission if you book through this link.

If you’re staying at the Time Square Resort and Spa, you could leave around 9 am, hit the temple by 10, spend 45 minutes, then drive the 5 km to Narayan Sarovar by 11:15. The lake walk takes about 40 minutes, and there are small snack stalls right by the shore where you can grab a quick bite before heading back for the 5 pm aarti.

You can also stop at the small kiosk near the main entrance that sells fresh fruit juices; it’s a quick break spot for kids. If you’re staying in Nandyal, a short drive to Hotel DR Indraaprasthaa gives you that kid friendly menu you’ll need after the walk.

If you’re leaving from Pithoragarh, a hired 4WD or a local taxi works best for the steep roads to Berinag and Chaukori, especially in summer. For Munsiyari you can catch a shared jeep that stops at the tea gardens. Starting early does cut the crowds at the temple and gives you more time to stroll through the tea estates. If you need a place to stay, The Green Village Eco Resort Jageshwar is a convenient option a short drive away.

If you start at Mahalakshmi Temple, you’re already in the city centre. From there the drive to Rankala Lake is only a few minutes east, so you can enjoy the lake’s sunset before heading north to Panhala Fort, which is the longest leg. After the fort you can return to the city and stay at Hotel Atharv, which is just 260 metres from the temple and gives you easy access to the rest of the attractions.
