If you leave the station early, the first Keonjhar Bus Stand bus to the Badaghagara village starts at 6 am on Saturday. It stops at Sanaghagara first, then you can walk a short stretch to Gonasika Temple. After the walk, the same bus will pick you up near the waterfall. If you need a quick break before heading back, HOTEL SRI, just 2.5 km from the station, offers basic rooms at a low rate.

Since the caves are only a 1.5 km walk, you can finish well before the late afternoon showers that sometimes start around 4 pm in early October. If you prefer a quick refresh afterward, a short drive to Wildernest Nature Resort gives you a shaded spot to dry off and grab a drink. The resort’s walk in access to the hills is handy for a relaxed return.

Consider shooting from the back of the central pillar but tilt the lens slightly upward so the arch’s light frames the kids’ faces. A quick step to the left places the stone lintel in front, giving a natural border without crowding the frame. For a quieter October visit, try a weekday morning before 9 a.m. If you need a place to stay nearby, Hotel Akanksha in Jagdalpur is convenient.

If you’re aiming for a quick walk, try to get there before 10 am. The trail is only 1.5 km and the early morning air is usually dry, even in early October. After you finish you can head back to Wildernest Nature Resort for a shower and a cold drink just a short 13 km drive.

You can grab a small motorized boat right at the launch for a few rupees an hour, which is cheaper than buying a kayak. After paddling, walk over to the Port Blair market for inexpensive local snacks. A short walk from there is the free view of the historic Cellular Jail, so you can finish the day with a low cost cultural stop.

If you’re already stopping at Virupaksha or Vittala, the extra 30 40 minutes to Hemakuta is worth it for the sunset view over the ruins. The hill sits right on the ridge, so you get a clear panorama without any crowds. Just be sure to leave enough time to descend before dark if you’re on a tight schedule.

You might also visit the small village of Khonoma on the way to Namdapha; it has a community craft centre that lets you watch weaving for free and you can buy a few pieces at a low price. If you decide to stay in Tezu, Ninashi Homestay offers simple rooms and a chance to chat with locals about the best budget spots nearby.

Hotel O Sunshine 2 in Bhubaneswar is about 73 km from the airport and can arrange a taxi to Balugaon Bus Stand; the local boat to Birds’ Island usually leaves around 10 am and 4 pm, so you could catch the morning run after a quick stay.

The zoo usually has a tiger feeding session around 11 am and a bird show at 2 pm if you time your visit right you can squeeze in those highlights. After the zoo, a quick 15 minute walk takes you straight to Mysore Palace, and from there a 10 minute drive gets you to Karanji Lake for a relaxed stroll. If you need a nearby stay, the Grand Continent Mysore A Sarovar Portico Affiliate Hotel is just under a kilometre away.

A quick way is to start at the Basilica, walk to Se Cathedral, then hop in a taxi to Fort Aguada. From there a short drive takes you to Calangute Beach, a quick auto or bus to Anjuna Flea Market, and finish at Chapora Fort. All these points lie within a 30 km loop, so a single driver or shared auto will cover the whole day without extra transport. If you need a break before heading out, Treebo Rock Valley is just under 14 km away and easy to reach by cab.

If you’re staying overnight, the ArtBuzz Rishikesh hostel is only a short walk from the Ganga and gives easy access to the evening aarti. In October the trail is greener but can be sticky, so plan a quick morning visit to Rishikesh for a swim and then head to Durga Devi before the afternoon heat picks up. October usually has a steadier wind pattern, so you’re more likely to get a consistent lift. February’s lighter breeze can be more variable, but the cooler air often gives smoother thermals. If you’re staying close, the Sterling Stolen Heaven Lonavala is a convenient base and keeps you under 7 km from the launch point. The museum’s small plaque near the staircase explains that the original colonial roof was made from slate shipped from England, and that the Khandi people were hired to cut and lay the tiles. If you’re hiking to Putudi Waterfall, you can spot a second plaque that sketches the original tea and coffee planting grid the British tried to impose, and how the tribe modified the spacing for better shade. Have you seen the interpretive board at the Coffee Garden that outlines that same grid layout?

The khandvi stall on the left side of the main path is a quick, tasty option before the evening pooja. They also serve a small cup of masala chai that’s ready in a minute. If you prefer a quieter spot after the temple, the ARTILLA INN’s cafeteria is just a short walk away and offers a full Gujarati thali.

If you’re arriving early, a pre booked taxi from the airport is the most reliable. It usually drops you at the Taluka bus stand around 7:30 am, giving you a few minutes before the first Rishikesh bus at 8 am. If you’d rather stay nearby after the drop off, Vatsyayana a Himalayan boutique resort 31 km away offers a quiet base before you head back to the city.
