If you’re aiming for the most active lion sightings, head to the safari area right after the white tiger feeding at 10 am. The lions are usually more alert around noon. For a quieter morning, try a Wednesday; the zoo is less crowded and the animals are still energetic. From Chandigarh you can drive about an hour and a half via the Chandigarh Kalka road, stopping for coffee in Zirakpur.
